Lordwin Jeyakumar - January 26th, 2025 - Two Sons, Two Covenants, One Choice​ Genesis 16:1-16 &Galatians 4:21-31 Facts of the Story in Simple Terms: One Father: Abraham (originally Abram). Two Mothers: Hagar (Sarah’s maidservant) and Sarah (originally Sarai). Two Sons: Ishmael (Hagar’s son) and Isaac (Sarah’s son). One son born the ordinary way: Ishmael, born through natural means and human effort (Genesis 16:15). One son born by God’s intervention: Isaac, born miraculously when Sarah was well past childbearing age (Genesis 21:1-3). One son born by spiritual compromise: Ishmael, the result of Sarah and Abraham’s decision to take matters into their own hands (Genesis 16:2-4). One son born according to God’s promise: Isaac, fulfilling God’s covenant promise to Abraham (Genesis 17:19, 21). Ishmael born according to works: A representation of human effort to solve God’s plan without trusting His timing (Galatians 4:23).
