Roughly 1 in every 6 Americans has the herpes virus. However, the rate of herpes infections among black women is an astoundingly high 50 percent. Why are black women infected with herpes at a higher rate than Americans as a whole? Is it lack of knowledge regarding safe sex practices? Are black women simply having more sex thereby increasing the likelihood of infection? Or maybe, black women are genetically predisposed to infection with herpes.
