In December of 1865, the Thirteenth Amendment made slavery illegal in the United States. Now, more than one-hundred and fifty years later does slavery have anything to do with the condition of black people? Is slavery the reason that blacks lag behind every other ethnic group in education and income. Does slavery somehow permeate generations to fill prisons with black men and women, promote infection of blacks with sexually transmitted diseases and breakdown the black family structure? For insight into this perplexing question we’ll examine the words of one individual who claims to be suppressed as a result of slavery.
