The majority of adults these days tend to be at least somewhat more forthright with family members when it comes to their health.  But even if they are open, sharing these things with minor children is a subjective judgment call, based on what the child can handle. There are many mental health issues that could be manageable for a child to process. But some pathologies can be complex to understand or evoke anxiety or other fears in children.
