Tonight’s topic deals with the professional mental health community’s handling of Basic Grief, Complex Traumatic Grief, and whether or not and how it should be represented in Diagnostic references such as the DSM V or ICD 11. Grief itself, as a basic level, is a universal, natural reaction to losses, and just about everyone will experience it at a basic level, multiple times in their lives. Obviously, based on the value of the person lost (or object, place, event, or other major losses), grief has many levels, and this can affect a person’s ability to cope with their feelings, and to be a functional person after the loss event in question.
