Oscar Wilde wrote: “True contentment is not having everything, but in being satisfied with everything one has.” Those are wise words and they well reflect the thinking of the stoics, whose philosophy was so influential at the time that Paul wrote. But the apostle goes a step further. Contentment is thoroughly good, but the best of all worlds is when it is combined with a life that is focused on God.
