1 Samuel 1 is the first chapter of the First Book of Samuel in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible or the first part of the Books of Samuel in the Hebrew Bible. It tells the story of Hannah, a woman who was unable to have children, and how she prayed to God for a son. God answered her prayer and she gave birth to Samuel, who became one of the most important prophets in Israel. The chapter begins with a description of Elkanah, Hannah's husband. He was a man of God who went to Shiloh every year to worship and sacrifice to the Lord. Elkanah had two wives, Hannah and Peninnah. Peninnah had many children, but Hannah had none. This made Hannah very sad, and she prayed to God for a son. One day, Hannah went to Shiloh to worship and sacrifice to the Lord.
