Beloved Capitals player Alexander Ovechkin attended the Commanders’ game last week with his wife Nastya and oldest son Sergei. He wore a Kirk Cousins (quarterback from 2012-17) jersey and Redskins Hat. While it was a throwback to the team with the old name, Kirk Cousins’ number was the same as Ovi’s - #8. Ovi is one for throwbacks, as his Instagram profile photo is still a selfie with Putin.

Juan Soto may not be a Washington National much longer after he rejected a $440+ Million deal with the Nats. This has fueled speculation, opinions, and questions about him including flying coach to the All-Star Game. Oh, by the way, Soto won the Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game. Such a huge accomplishment has been overshadowed by the chatter of an impending trade.

Wegmans in DC near Teneleytown in Ward 3 is now open after a 5 year wait. Located just behind the historic old Fannie Mae building, there is liquor, beer and wine, and over 70,000 grocery items! In Wegmans style there is a nod to a few local brands like Capital City Mambo Sauce. There are several specialty departments including a sushi, pizza and hoagie station and the bakery (pro tip the cheesecake is amazing). Open from 6 AM to midnight and with 750 parking spots it is a breeze to get in and out. Also opening on the Fannie Mae campus are residential buildings right next door and several new restaurants coming soon, including a Tatte and Taco Bamba.

Wayne Rooney formerly on the DC United team from 2018-19, previous with Manchester United in the Premier League and their all-time top goal scorer and scored 53 goals for the English national team. He has agreed to terms to be the next manager of DC United, and will join up with the club soon. DC United fired their coach back in April. For the second straight season, Juan Soto is going to he All-Star Game. Washington Nationals outfielder was named a reserve outfielder for the National League. Major League Soccer announced that Washington, D.C. will host the 2023 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target on July 19 at Audi Field, home of D.C. United. The announcement comes just a few days after DC lost the bid to host a World Cup game in 2026. Happening at Nats Park rumors continue to swirl about who will be the new team owners, Axios is reporting beside Monumental owner, Ted Leonsis, private equity billionaire Joshua Harris current owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils. Harris has ties to DC, he grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and went to The Field School. The weekend of June 17, Nationals retired Ryan Zimmerman’s number 11. The ceremony included speeches from past players, Mark Lerner, Manager Davey Martinez and GM Mike Rizzo. Tommy got a chance to catch up with Ryan and Heather Zimmerman on life after professional baseball just a few days before the ceremony in his Walk A Mile podcast.

As Tommy laced up his roller skates to hit the rink at Mosaic Skateland, he realized it was his first time on roller skates…What could go wrong? Skateland is open from 11:00 am – 10:00 pm and is open daily from June 25 - September 25

The rail gateway to DC is getting a facelift, and in the next -- 20something years -- we'll see the improvements.

Fireworks are happening on the National Mall starting at 9:09 pm on July 4th. While the Mall is the best place to see the fireworks, it is very crowded and hard to get to with street closures. There are some awesome spots to view the fireworks, not on the Mall. On the grounds of the National Cathedral, there is an overlook to view the National Monument. You may have heard of Juneteenth for the first time when it became a national holiday. Perhaps your family has celebrated for decades. Whether to you Opal Lee is a household name or someone you're just learning about Tommy had a great chat ahead of Juneteenth 2022. Alice Faye Duncan wrote a beautiful children's biography on the Grandmother of Juneteenth called "Opal Lee and What It Means To Be Free." They chatted about her journey creating the book, conversations with Opal herself and how people of all ages and races can celebrate Juneteenth.

It is back at the Botanic Garden, the world's stinkest flower. Only in bloom for a few days, some describe it as smelling like rotting meat, which is how it got its name, “The Corpse Flower.” Striking colors of red and yellow it is bloomed at 8ft tall! As the evening raised money for programs that supported the Greek-American community and those at risk in Greece, Tommy got carried away. There’s something exhilarating about supporting a charity, but sometimes it’s easy to get out ahead of yourself...

Pride events return after a 2-year hiatus! There are events happening all around the DC area, this weekend's main events include the Pride Parade, and Pride Festival with a full day of entertainment on three stages, food, drink, and advocacy with over 300 exhibitors and fireworks at the Wharf for Pride on the Pier. Legendary singer songwriter Don McLean actually believes the music has died. Don McLean is coming to Capital One Hall in June on a tour celebrating half a century of the iconic song "American Pie." Tommy McFLY and Don chatted earlier this month over Zoom. Don shared some fun moments in the last few decades. He's not a fan though of modern music, except of course Taylor Swift and Kanye West.

Bitty and Beau's Coffee Shop employing people with disabilities opened in Georgetown. More than 80% of people with IDD are unemployed. In 2016 a North Carolina family opened a coffee shop so their kids Bitty and Beau who have Downs Syndrome had an opportunity for fair employment. They have two dozen shops across the country employing more than 200 people. DC is their latest locations. Check it out on the corner of Wisconsin and M Street NW.

Two construction barges on the Potomac River broke loose from their moorings over a rainy May weekend. They were stuck on the rocks upstream of Harper’s Ferry, WV. What does these massive floating spectacles have in common with Rusty the Red Panda and Michaela Salahi? Listen to find out.
