In times of darkness, disappointment, and desperation it feels like Father does not care - when the opposite is true. We instead need to be reminded to wait and trust that He never changes. On the seventh day of Creation, with nothing left to make or add, God entered into a day of rest. God blessed and sanctified this day, and unlike the previous six days, It was a day without ending. This signalled that God intended man to permanently live in and from rest. This Sabbath rest is not a break from work, but rather a break from self-effort and striving as we live and work from resting in Jesus. Genesis chapter 1 contains the first six days of creation. And it is easy to focus on the mechanics and order in which God created everything and miss the heart behind it. The why God made everything reveals the Heart of God towards us, His masterpiece of creation. In the opening verses of Genesis we meet the main character of the story - God. God in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. But in verse 3, Light appears, but it's not until day 4 that the sun, moon, and stars are made. So what is the Light on day 1 in verse 3? It must be Jesus, and we discover that God is giving us a gospel presentation in verse 4. Sometimes Jesus is silent on a subject. Sometimes Jesus has other plans. Sometimes, even when we're desperate, we find out that Jesus' plans are different than ours. What do we do when accepting Jesus' plan is hardest thing we could do. Mark 7:24-30 describes the story of a woman who came to interrupt Jesus' plans in a dire situation. Psalm 3 is a description of King David at the darkest point of his life - rejected and pursued by his son's army. However among all his failures leading up to this point the psalmist also demonstrates an uncanny ability to trust in God. Like David, we are surrounded, enclosed and encircled by hardships. So much so that it feels like there is no escape from harm. How do we endure this? We can endure hardships by trusting that no matter what comes; God is our shield, support and salvation. When we trust Him to be those things for us, we experience His honour, His strength at work and His justice. As we begin a new series through the first four chapters of Genesis, we must start with examining the various views of how creation came to be. Are faith and science opposed to one another? Is the science really settled when it comes to answering the bigger questions of life such as how we can to be and what is our purpose today? Unfortunately, we weren't promised a good time for a short time. We were promised a short time of hard times. One thing we were promised was that we could know Him who our hearts desire and that would be enough. We have accepted the invitation to know Him in the past but will we accept the invitation again- especially in difficult times?
