Episodios

  • Between Episodes--Roasting Jason's Christmas Tree

    16/12/2019 Duración: 21min

Christmas trees are fun and lovely when decorated well.  Or even mildly competently.  Jason has high standards for his tree and this year's product is...lacking.  We end up spending a good bit of time ripping into it.  No one ends up in tears, as the harshest words came from the creator of the tree himself.  So enjoy a little good-natured roasting of Jason's pitiful excuse for Christmas cheer. • The Feed

    13/12/2019 Duración: 13min

It's Friday.  Eventually, the kids (if you have them) will be in bed and you'll be looking for something to watch.  How about The Feed on Amazon Prime?  It's a dystopian future drama that wonders what it would be like to have all of our social media, the internet and other bits and pieces of technology as an implant in our heads.  But, does the show live up to the promising and interesting concept?  Not really.  We break it down more and make sure to get you our overall rating within that first 5 minutes. • You vs Wild

    11/12/2019 Duración: 15min

Some may remember the Discover Channel show Man vs Wild with Bear Grylls.  Well, he's back with an interactive show for kids to play along with.  You get to choose if Bear eats the termites or the giant grub; swings across the ravine on a vine or uses the log; eats nuts from bear poo or moves on and hopes to find something later.  Each episode has a "goal" that Bear is trying to reach.  Sometimes to rescue a dog, another time to find a missing doctor in the jungle, and so on.  Either way, with your remote in hand you get to help him decide what to do.  The best part:  Some choices end in failure, so it matters what you choose.  Fun!  We have mixed reviews, however, as one finds it more entertaining than the other.  Remember, we have our overall ratings within the first 5 minutes for those living in a time crunch. • Between Episodes--Frozen 2, Mister Rogers & More

    09/12/2019 Duración: 19min

It seems Jeremy lived in a movie theater over Thanksgiving weekend so he's coming with the reviews.  Jason has nothing to offer.  Seems about normal...although, it would appear that the movies someone does or doesn't like may decide who he'll be friends with.  What a jerk! • Mike Birbiglia--The New One

    06/12/2019 Duración: 16min

One of Jason's favorite comedians, he was super psyched to see a new special coming out on Netflix.  Excitement lead to some disappointment, however, as it didn't quite measure up to what he'd hoped.  But, did Jeremy agree?  (Well, yes...and you'll get our ratings within the first five minutes, as is our promise to you.)  Why, though?  Why was there disappoint meant?  If you listen, we'll be happy to tell you!  Happy Friday! • Miraculous: A Christmas Special

    04/12/2019 Duración: 08min

Oof!  Just spare yourself and go watch Klaus if you haven't already.  Unless your kid enjoys the show Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, just don't bother.  If they do like the show, they might enjoy this Christmas special but you most likely won't.  It was just painful.  Although, if you enjoy hearing horribly written and performed songs for the laughs you might get something from this train wreck.  So...Merry Christmas and you're welcome for this assist! ;) Twitter:  @The_PGPod Instagram:  @parentalguidancepodcast Email:  pgpconnection@gmail.com

  • To Be Of Service

    29/11/2019 Duración: 25min

If you're listening to this on Black Friday...good luck out there!  Otherwise, here's a Netflix documentary revolving around service dogs for military veterans who are suffering from PTSD.  It's great conversation starter on the benefits (there are a LOT) of service dogs and the criminal lack of support from our government and the VA in the treatment and care of our service men and women.  And there're dogs in it!  Dogs are awesome.  Give service dogs to our vets!

  • Klaus

    27/11/2019 Duración: 12min

Is it possible that Netflix has created a new Christmas classic?  I guess it depends on your definition of "classic," but we certainly think they did really well with this movie.  Good fun with some heart and soul to it.  Winner, winner...(finish however you like)

  • Between Episodes--Thanksgiving & Christmas Stuff(ing)

    26/11/2019 Duración: 33min

I mean, pretty self-explanatory.  We take some time to dig into Thanksgiving meals, what we enjoy and what we don't  Also, what about those Christmas traditions and then some random Bill Murray and Will Ferrel love as we get sidetracked on some of their best work.

  • Between Episodes--Star Wars Nerdom

    25/11/2019 Duración: 23min

Disney + launches The Mandalorian...the last in the Skywalker saga arrives on December 20th...so much Star Wars, so little time.  But Jason decided to watch The Phantom Menace for the first time in many, many years to see if it's as bad as he remembers.  If you enjoy anything Star Wars related, you'll enjoy this episode!  Nerdom activated! • The Devil Next Door

    22/11/2019 Duración: 16min

Friday means the Night Shift edition!  Hooray!  Although, this documentary revolves around the prosecution and trial of alleged Nazi war criminal Ivan the Terrible, so not exactly your cheeriest subject.  But if you love documentaries and are a WW II buff like Jason, then this will be right up your alley.  We both give a high rating, despite the numerous IMDb reviewers that ripped this Netflix documentary for its use of a particular map.  But we get into to that, so listen in and learn why we recommend The Devil Next Door. • Green Eggs and Ham go Dancing with the Birds

    20/11/2019 Duración: 15min

So today is a sort of 2-for-1 special.  Our miscommunication with each other gets you a review of both Green Eggs & Ham and Dancing with the Birds on Netflix.  Ah, miscommunication... But, hey, extra reviews!  Hooray! Twitter:  @The_PGPod Instagram:  @parentalguidancepodcast

  • The World According to Jeff Goldblum

    13/11/2019 Duración: 10min

If you enjoy the singularly unique, bizarre and entertaining personality that is Jeff Goldblum then you will enjoy this show.  Episode #1 has him diving into and exploring sneaker culture.  Just think:  Jeff Goldblum doing a deep-dive on sneakers.  Not surprisingly, it gets interesting and entertaining.  Worth a watch.  And we let you know more about it on the pod and if it's suitable for kids. Twitter:  @The_PGPod Instagram:  @parentalguidancepodcast

  • Disney Shorts

    13/11/2019 Duración: 12min

There are a number of shorts that Disney has produced for their new streaming service.  We look at several of them and let you know which ones make you laugh, which ones go for the feels, and which ones we are looking forward to seeing more of.  (We're looking at you Forky & Pixar in Real Life!)  We give you are ratings for each short and let you know which one has an obscenity (it's Purl...).  Listen in for more info! • High School Musical, The Musical, The Series

    13/11/2019 Duración: 09min

Many of you grew up on the original High School Musical.  Does a series sound like a good idea to you?  Excited for it?  Jeremy was...underwhelmed with it.  Jason, who has never seen the original, was slightly more forgiving.  At least when he was able to watch the ridiculously shaky camera work.  Yikes!  What's going on there?!  Anyway, there may be some disappointment mixed in with what works.  Further details in the podcast. • Marvel Hero Project

    13/11/2019 Duración: 08min

Our Disney + original #2!  This sweet & inspiring show will encourage and challenge your kids and you.  Well worth a watch on any level.  At least, so far...you can only watch episode #1 right now as Disney has opted not to go the route of feeding the binging community.  Oh, well...the anticipation is part of the enjoyment.  Until next week, Marvel Hero Project! Twitter:  @The_PGPod Instagram:  @parentalguidancepodcast

  • The Mandalorian

    12/11/2019 Duración: 13min

Star Wars universe!  And episode 1 totally lives up to the original heart of this beloved franchise:  A western in space.  Gritty, dusty locations; a silent, mysterious bounty hunter...and just the beginning of interesting, bizarre creatures.  Oh, we also recorded this while simultaneously recording video on this little thing called YouTube.  Go check us out in all of our "glory" if you are into that.  Otherwise, here we are in audio form only. • Jack Ryan

    08/11/2019 Duración: 20min

Amazon prime is on season 2 of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan.  We look at the show's two seasons and give you an idea what you're in for and whether it's worth the time to sit and enjoy.  (Basically, it's flawed in parts but enjoyable enough to partake in.) • Daybreak

    06/11/2019 Duración: 17min

We reviewed the Netflix series Daybreak.  It's TV-MA.  It has earned that rating.  It's not for under 17-18 years of age.  So why did we review this for the pod?  Because kids are going to learn about it and want to watch it.  Which means they may look for ways to sneak-watch it.  This will let you know what's in it so you are aware.  We gave it fairly high ratings:  an average of 4 scoops for kids...if they're old enough to watch it!  And for the parents, if you're watching it with your 17-18+ year old, you might enjoy it, too.  We gave it 4-5 cups of coffee for the grown-ups.  We didn't quite get the ratings to you within 5 minutes so that's why they're here. Twitter:  @The_PGPod Instagram:  @parentalguidancepodcast Don't forget to check in on Twitter & Instagram this week as we are running a GIVEAWAY!  We let you know what you need to do to get involved so don't miss your chance to get a gift card!

  • GIVEAWAY!

    05/11/2019 Duración: 05min

Okay, Disney+ comes out next week and we are going to go stupid crazy.  On November 12th, we will be live streaming our instant reactions to episodes of The Mandolorian.  But that's not all!  We are going to be doing a...*drumroll*...GIVEAWAY!  Oh, you got that from the title already?  Fair enough.  Each day for the next week leading up to Disney's big launch, we will be going onto Twitter & Instagram and asking for you to join in the fun.  Whether a poll or question to answer or whatever else we decide, there will be a way for you to get entered in to win one of the gift cards.  It won't be crazy huge, but free money is free money, right?
