Writer and author Krista Burton is on the pod to discuss the Wachowskis’ iconic lesbian neo-noir film, Bound! She also tells us all about her incredible new book, Moby Dyke: An Obsessive Quest To Track Down The Last Remaining Lesbian Bars In America, and her experiences traveling the country to write it! Now, for those who haven’t seen Bound, it stars Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly as Corky and Violet, an ex-con and gangster girlfriend respectively, who scheme together steal millions of stashed mob money. The costumes are by the Oscar-winner Lizzy Gardiner (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Mission Impossible II, Ticket to Paradise), and while there aren’t a ton of looks, they looked DAMN GOOD. We also talk about the legendary Chanel Vamp nail polish, murder robes, Krista playing the jaw harp as a child, and how we’re going to hold a lock-picking party in honor of Corky. Pearl movie fans, get ready! We had the pleasure of having the extremely talented costume designer Malgosia Turzanska on the pod to discuss her incredible work! We get into the nitty gritty of The Green Knight, which has the most breathtaking, intricate costumes, and she talks about the witchy inscriptions she included in the garments, as well as working with interesting vegan leathers. We are absolutely thrilled to have the fabulous Bri Luna of The Hoodwitch on the podcast today to talk about one of her favorite movies, She-Devil! The 1989 flick stars Roseanne Barr as a jilted housewife who devises a long-con revenge on her cheating husband and the romance novelist who stole him (Meryl Streep in one of her most underrated roles). Costume designer Albert Wolsky takes the characters through a fantastical voyage of clothes, beginning with caricatures of extreme femininity and stereotypes of the forgotten housewife, then into a transformation that is both sartorial and spiritual. It’s a makeover like no other! Bri opens our eyes to the movie’s many unseen layers: looking at it through a magickal lens, and how the two main characters can be interpreted as Lilith and Eve. We’re shaking things up today with a surprise music video minisode! This time, we’re taking it back to 1996 with the one and only Baby Girl, Aaliyah. "If Your Girl Only Knew,” penned by Missy Elliott and Timbaland, was the first single off her sophomore album, One in a Million. Blaire breaks down this transformative era in Aaliyah’s career, and how this video was a true makeover moment for Aaliyah in more ways than one. On the fashion side, she began to come into her own sense of style, pairing her signature tomboy vibe with midriff tops and belly chains. Then, Marie talks about how stylist David De La Cruz fitted Aaliyah in a leather motorcycle mama look, and the crème de la crème accessory, the Vivienne Westwood armor ring, which is, of course, a serious obsession on this pod.
