How to Get More Things Done | Ep. 133
01/07/2020 Duración: 16minIn this lecture, we step out on a limb and talk a bit about the art of getting things done. Most people worship the idea of productivity, but these same people are often the most unproductive of them all. We teach how one can get much better results and relieve stress by changing the way you think about the work that is actually sitting in front of you. We begin by outlining these 4 questions. Can this be done in less than 5 minutes? Do I have to be the one to do this? When will I dedicate time to do this? Is this is a systemic or nuanced problem? Understanding the Shadow Self | Ep. 123
08/06/2020 Duración: 24minCarl Jung popularized the idea of the Shadow Self many moons ago. Yet, there's still a frequent undertone of needing to remind people just how powerful the subconscious can be. There's an old quote from Jung that states that "until you make the unconscious conscious, it will rule your life and you will call it fate." So, my questions for your today is quite simple: Do you believe your future is a matter of fate? If so, do you associate fate with having a positive or negative connotation? So, there are a number of questions we'll cover today. What is the shadow self? What is its importance in the realm of art + design? What tactical things can be done to recognize and embrace the worst and most animalistic parts of yourself? Subscribe to our Newsletter Follow Us on Instagram

Making Peace with "Twoness" (ft. Jeremy Benson) | Ep. 122
05/06/2020 Duración: 01h09minDouble-consciousness is a concept in social philosophy referring, originally, to a source of inward “twoness” putatively experienced by African-Americans because of their racialized oppression and disvaluation in a white-dominated society. The concept is often associated with William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, who introduced the term into social and political thought, famously, in his groundbreaking The Souls of Black Folk (1903). On this segment of "Well Read.", we're joined by Jeremy Benson--a multidisciplinary designer from Tennessee who's currently living and working in Boston. His past and current experiences include, but aren't limited to: GEO Design House Snarkitecture Harvard GSD UPenn Subscribe to our Newsletter Follow Us on Instagram

5 Tough Questions on Artificial Intelligence | Ep. 118
27/05/2020 Duración: 29minWhen new technologies become widespread, they often raise ethical questions. For example: Weapons — who should be allowed own them? Printing press — what should be allowed to be published? Drones — where should they be allowed to go? In this lecture, we consider the wide range of downstream effects that could occur for society as a result of the broad adoption of novel technological use cases. Some example of short term use cases that raise particularly difficult questions include: Algorithmic Bias Fake News Autonomous Vehicles Privacy v. Surveillance Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems Subscribe to our Newsletter Follow Us on Instagram

How to Overcome Fear | Ep. 117
25/05/2020 Duración: 20minMost fears are just repetitive thoughts. The bad part about these sorts of thoughts is that once they get going...they seem to have a mind of their own. And, as a result, our biggest fears begin to compound on one another. The good news is that once we become better at comprehending and understanding our fears, then we can begin to lean into them much like a power forward leans into a defense before scoring the shot they envisioned all along. How to Think About the Future | Ep. 115
20/05/2020 Duración: 27minThis episode continues our Great Expectations study series--documenting and sharing different methods of anticipatory design. As we continue to understand design as more than just a department, we are able to see our role as creatives through a lens of systemic change. As a result, it becomes less about checking the creativity box when building an org chart and more about solving problems that matter. In this lecture, we provide an introductory overview of 3 distinctly different, and uniquely famous frameworks for thinking about the future. These frameworks are: STEEP PEST THE FUTURES WHEEL Subscribe to Our Newsletter Follow Us on Instagram

How to Build a Routine that Lasts | Ep. 114
18/05/2020 Duración: 50minMost people find it particularly difficult to stick with a routine. From health to wealth, to wisdom, they all seem to struggle with finding the "right way" of doing things. Generally, most well-read people who are interested in the development of the self understand that some combination of meditation, working out, task-driven work, deep work, etc. are good pieces of the routine puzzle. However, people often get hung up in knowing the correct "order of operations" for these different things. The good news is that there is no "right way". So, on this segment we are going to walk through 2 things in deep detail: An example of a battle-tested daily weekday routine A principled-guide to developing your own routine that can stand the test of time Subscribe to our Newsletter Follow Us on Instagram
