On Episode 17 of Sounds Like NYC, I got to sit down with Jon Sheckler! Jon is an up and coming drummer, composer and producer. With a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado, Jon has had a huge array of performances playing shows from Two Saints to Silvana, to Velvet Bar all the way to the Velvet Note in Georgia!Jon was recognized as an outstanding musician at the 2010 UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival and was nominated as a Rising Star at 2010 Inside/Out Jazz awards presented by Lucid Jazz Lounge and J&J Music. As an educator, Jon has been a faculty member at Day Jams Rock Camps, as well as an instructor for Musical Minds Keyboard Club. On Episode #013 of Sounds Like NYC, we got to sit down with electropop/indie-pop musician Elliot Lee. Dropping out of pre-medical school and moving to NYC, Elliot instead decided to "give a voice to the voiceless" and make music.    "I fell one of the keys to writing is, what I do is just I write a flow of consciousness on the paper, writing down everything that comes to mind around the topic and if a rhyme pops into my head I'll write that down. On Episode #010 of Sounds Like NYC, David got to sit down with NYC filmmaker Alberto Martinez. Coming from historic Astoria, Alberto works to tell inspiring and experimental stories with his art form. Alberto's newest work, Gods of Perdition is a horror film visually inspired by Dario Argento's and Japanese Yokai movies. Alberto tries to tackle the subject of parental alienation with this film and so far it has been well received, even going as far as being selected as the feature film for Flushing, Queens' Creepy Freaky Film Festival. "I think when you're comfortable in your settings when you're creating something, yeah it's going to be a complete reflection of you... Living in the NYC his whole life and currently residing in the Bronx, Issie definitely has his ear to the ground in order to stay ahead of the game. On Episode #004 of Sounds Like NYC, we sat down with artist Kadeem Phillip. Coming out of Brooklyn, Kadeem has been drawing since the age of 5. His art consists of real-life experiences, the good and the ugly, pieces revolving around depression and strong feminine figures are not foreign to Kadeem. Coming from a business/marketing background, Kadeem definitely has an advantage when it comes to capitalizing on his art.  "NYC has a lot to do with my art. Husband and wife painting duo, Dennis and Ria spend their free time painting colorful pieces of art on box trucks. With their concept of #BoxTruckGuardians, they not only make the city more colorful but also help the owners of these boxcars keep their trucks tag free.
