Today, we see Jesus changing Simon’s name to Peter, giving him the “keys of the kingdom,” and giving him the authority to “bind and loose.” What does it mean to Simon that his name is changed? What are the keys of the kingdom? And what does it mean to bind and loose? These are some of the topics we’ll consider in this episode.

In this week’s episode, we look at the famous episode when three times Jesus asks Peter if he loves him. We will see that after each of Peter’s response, Jesus gives Peter a mission—to feed his sheep. We’ll see that this mission means that Peter is to continue Christ’s mission of being the good shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep. In this way, Peter is to be Christ’s vicar—his representative here on earth.

Since we are discussing the authority to which Christians look as a guide in their walk with Christ, it is important to show the problems with the Protestant claim that the Bible alone is the sole source of authority for Christian teaching. This week, we examine four key problems of “sola scriptura”: (1) the problem of the canon, (2) the problem of time, (3) the problem of illiteracy, and (4) the problem of contradiction.

Does it matter which church we attend so long as we attend a church? And if Jesus did establish a church, how would we know which church is the one, true church he founded? These are the questions we tackle in today’s episode.

This week, we take a slight detour from the overarching theme of Season One (establishing firm foundations for our faith) and delve into the theology of the Resurrection. We see that the Resurrection is not simply a matter of history, but a matter of faith—and that Christ’s Resurrection gives us a vision of our own destiny!

Is it possible to “prove” that Jesus rose from the dead? Not exactly. But it is possible to prove that the men who tell us that Jesus rose from the dead are trustworthy and deserve our faith—and that’s the topic of this week’s episode.

This week, we continue our study the four Resurrection narratives found in Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, and John 20. We look at the actions of the disciples on that first Easter Sunday morning, and then we put offer a “harmonization” of the four narratives.

Saint Paul tells us: “If Christ has not been raised then our preaching is useless and your believing is useless” (1 Corinthians 15:14). This week, we ponder why the Resurrection of Jesus is absolutely essential to the Christian faith.

In this episode, we learn why it's reasonable to believe the New Testament is historically reliable. How do we do this? By showing that the twenty-seven books can all be linked to one of six eyewitnesses to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Does it matter when the Gospels were written? It does, because the closer the Gospels are to the life of Jesus, the more reasonable it is to accept what they say about his life, death, and resurrection.
