Star Wars, which can arguably be called one of the greatest cinematic series of our time, has recently become a somewhat divisive subject among fans. Even more unbelievable, our very own Nicole had not seen the majority of the movies. This is the first episode of a three part series in which Sara and Sal try to "make it right." (By forcing Nicole to watch!!!) Our next Movie Chat is a spooky one just in time for Halloween: The Descent (2005) starring Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Mendoza, and Alex Reid. Directed by Neil Marshall. It's a week of "B" words! It's the American Library Association's Banned Books Week. Check out their information site here. Nicole has a list of the top 10 "banned and challenged" books of last year, you can also read it as well. Sara started watching the new season of the Great British Baking Show and wanted to discuss some of the interesting baking words that are used that we may not quite be familiar with, along with some great books here at the library. Jim Ward gives us the lowdown on what to expect at next week's first MCPL Music Under the Stars featuring the country band Southbound. The concert takes place in the parking lot on Tuesday, Aug. 17th at 7pm. (Doors open at 5:30p) Come down early for line dancing instruction at 6pm!  

The 20th Annual NY Asian Film Festival starts this weekend, and if you can't make it to the city, how about creating your very own at home with a great selection of movies we have here at the library in our Foreign Film DVD collection! Sara can get you started with a few of her favorites. National Night Out is a community-police awareness-raising event in the United States, held the first Tuesday of August. We are pleased to have our colleague and Coordinator of Outreach Services Deborah Hempe here to chat with us about this year's event taking place on Tuesday, August 3rd from 5:30-8:30pm at the Centereach Pool. The local NNO event is a partnership between the 6th Precinct of the SCPD, Councilman Kevin LaValle at the Town of Brookhaven, and MCPL. While not required, registration for the event is highly recommended.
