With the staggering rates of global disasters, terrorism, and even abuse in our own backyards trauma and it's debilitating affects are increasing at a terrifying rate here in the United States and around the world. Survivors of trauma need to gain healing from a variety of healthcare professionals. Trauma affects each aspect of an individual's life and requires the knowledge and understanding health care workers in every realm. But beyond the skills of medicine, rehabilitation, and psychology, what does the healthcare worker's role in addressing the patients spirituality entail. How do we as health care workers who value the role of spirituality have a gift to share beyond the mere measures of modern day science. This session not only helps to explain the neurological affects of trauma, but also how to delicately and affectively treat patients here in the United States and in culturally appropriate measures around the world using rhythmic and movement to create relationship and build trust after t

This session will look at previous outbreaks of disease among missionaries. This session will also identify resources for travelers to learn about health risks associated with international travel, such as CDC's Travelers' health page containing the most up-to-date information about health needs for individuals traveling overseas.

Preparing for yourself or others for missions includes learning how to stay safe and healthy while traveling. Experts from CDC will offer information on how to avoid diseases, including those spread by mosquitoes and unsafe food and water.

If you are ministering in a Muslim community, it is imperative to understand the cultural implications of Islam. This session will address those implications from a speaker that grew up in those communities.

Jesus cured individuals and transformed society. As doctors on the edges of the Kingdom, we are called to care for the suffering patient as well as the crumbling community. A medical mission's approach that integrates curative and public health will be stronger than focusing on either alone; these are complementary not mutually exclusive options.

Children under the age of five are at the highest risk for mortality due to malnutrition. Many times the malnutrition is because of a lack of understanding of proper nutrition and ways to wisely use limited funds. We will look at two examples of nutritional programs in South Asia.

Women’s health issues are rarely discussed in impoverished communities in South Asia. Health education stories change the physical health of the women in a community, but the stories of the Gospel change lives for eternity. Henna is widely used decorating hands and feet for weddings. A program of using henna to share the Gospel through visual designs in Biblical stories was developed in South Asia. We will give an example of how God used the incorporation of women’s health and henna to bring the miracle of salvation.

• This session will provide a review of diseases that have been seen in the United States recently but are typically considered tropical diseases. The discussion will examine epidemiology, transmission, symptoms, and treatment of the diseases.

This session will give an overview of cancer patients in Africa, with a discussion of the difficulties patients face in getting access to diagnosis and treatment. We will also look at over view of the oncology program at Mbingo Baptist Hospital and discuss future possibilities in improving cancer care in Africa.

Should Muslims who enter the Kingdom through Jesus remain Muslim Insiders? Whether or not they should, they ARE. Tens of thousands of Muslims from diverse corners of the Muslim world are transferring allegiance from Mohammed and the Qur’an to Messiah Jesus and His Kingdom of grace … while remaining part of the Uma of Islam (Muslim Community).Beyond orthodoxy (correct beliefs – we’ll demonstrate just how orthodox they are) these Muslim Insiders are also orthopraxic (correct practice), obeying everything taught by Jesus, their much treasured and divine Savior. They may not ascribe to our Creeds (which they have not read) but they lovingly affirm all the Bible teaches about Jesus, their Lord and Master.This workshop will not train how to “do Insider ministry.” But it will inform how God is doing it. The workshop will not attempt to defend insider movements. But it will declare the mighty works God is doing among many peoples within the house of Ishmael (Islam). Messy? Yes. What Muslim movement to Christ is not?

Like all human institutions, healthcare is subject to the Fall and operates under principles at odds with the Kingdom of God. Disciples of Jesus who understand the character of their King and His Kingdom must advocate, through their words and actions, for just and equitable healthcare. Beginning with a foundation of biblical justice and reviewing Church history, this breakout session will challenge disciples to make Jesus look great by loving and serving the poor and marginalized.

Hinduism unlike the Judeo-Christian and Islamic faiths has a radically divergent worldview; the New Age ideology/faith while being an eclectic network, is in its foundation a western, modern adaptation of Hinduism. The presentation is prepared with a view to equip the missionary to get into the shoes of these worldview followers so that they can better communicate the Gospel of Christ in God.

Worldview is the way we view life and our place in it. What is your worldview? The great majority of medical missions in East Asia takes place in Buddhist and Chinese (Confucian) worldviews. We will look at the meaning of these worldviews and the obstacles they present to evangelization. What unique role does medical missions have in this process and in these contexts? This session will feature a veteran medical missionary familiar with Confucianism and the Chinese worldview. I will present the Buddhist challenge.

This session will enable participants to understand the necessity for demonstration and proclamation of the Gospel in their daily lives and in missions.

The United States is a much overlooked field in global missions. 96 million people live in areas designated as medically underserved. All of those are communities where poverty is rampant and resources are low. Not only are those areas of great need, they are areas of tremendous opportunity where the harvest is ripe for the gospel. The Director of Christian Community Health Fellowship will share an overview of the issues impacting this cross-cultural domestic mission field, and will discuss how Christian health professionals are intentionally living out the gospel through healthcare among the poor in the United States.

This workshop will provide an overview of Community Health Evangelism (CHE), a breakthrough mission strategy that seamlessly integrates evangelism and discipleship with disease prevention and community-based development. Through these ministries people become followers of Jesus, churches are planted, and entire communities are lifted out of cycles of poverty and disease. Participants will learn the basics of the strategy, and get practical information about how to start a CHE ministry in a target community.

Health professionals in all settings should take a history from their patient(s). National guidelines in the U.S. recommend a spiritual assessment be included with most or all patients. Yet, surveys show that over 95% of patients say that no health professional has ever inquired of their spiritual or religious beliefs. Furthermore, most health professionals indicate that they never been taught how or why to incorporate a spiritual or religious assessment into their patient history. In this session you'll learn why a spiritual assessment is now considered a part of quality, evidence-based patient care. In addition, you'll be exposed to a number of spiritual history instruments to consider using in your patient care and you'll be exposed to options of how to utilize the information obtained from a spiritual assessment.Finally, you'll be introduced to a small group training tool that you can use at home to facilitate the introduction of these principles to other health professionals.

All healing is a prophecy of the coming of the Kingdom of God.However commercialism and self-aggrandizement can partly or fully blur the prophecy.In the present world context where secular forces are dominant, where profit making is the norm and where pursuit of a career at any cost is the goal of medical education, how can hospitals continue to be witnesses?This presentation is based on 30 years of experience from medical mission work in India.
