Anyone who receives the campus crime alert emails is no doubt used to seeing the emails in their inbox. However, in the past several weeks, the emails have detailed more serious crimes than our campus is used to. Deondre’ has more.Tomorrow marks the first of three presidential debates between contenders Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. With just over a month to go, the candidates are in the home stretch to make themselves heard. Here’s Jake with what we can expect over the next month in terms of early voting and the presidential election.Barack Obama versus Mitt Romney… in our polarized two party system, third party candidates rarely get the attention that they might deserve. Andrew thought it might be interested to take focus on these overlooked candidates, in the first of a multi-part series exploring the third party candidates running in this election.

You know, those tiny robots that will one day take over the world… Deondre’ has more.Shack-a-thon started yesterday, a week-long drive to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. Perhaps one of the most influential scientific figures, Neil Armstrong is perhaps best known as the first man on the moon. He died this week at the age of 82.August 27th marked the first day of the four day long Republican National Convention, the biggest party of the year where Republican leaders from all over the country to get behind their presidential candidate for this year.As late August creeps into early September, people all around Raleigh look forward to the farmer’s market.At last week’s Packapalooza, if you were lucky enough to catch it, you probably saw our very own Chancellor Woodson up on stage. Deondre’ was lucky enough to sit down and have a chance to speak with the Chancellor of our fine University.

It’s official, summer is over. Back to school. But before we hang up our swim trunks up for the year, let’s take one last look at the Wolfpack’s Summer 2012.Packapalooza! Probably N.C. State’s biggest party of the year, meant to kick off the school year with a bang! This year was absolutely no exception.Andrew went out recently in search of how N.C. State students feel about having a Chik-Fil A restaurant right on our campus. Good? Bad? You decide.Last Friday was N.C. State’s largest blood drive, and Jake, who had never given blood before, decided it was something worth trying.Caitlin Cauley is a representative of the Wake County Board of Elections, here to dispel some common misconceptions and to enlighten us on our right to vote.

Perhaps the most visible symbol of N.C. State, the Bell Tower can be heard throughout the campus. As we welcome back old and new students alike, Deondre’ delves a little bit into the history of this symbolic tower.Probably the newest university organization on campus, the Division of Academic and Student Affairs is set to play a large and increasingly visible role in the lives of the wolfpack. EOT interviews its new leader, Dr. Mike Mullen.Chick-Fil-A has been in the news a lot recently, especially here in North Carolina. Whatever your feelings on the controversial chicken chain are, it’s hard to deny its rather large presence here on campus. Andrew explores the controversy from a Wolfpacker’s point of view.

For our first report this week, Jake brings us a bit of information on the brand new university organization, the Division of Academic and Student Affairs.The IRC plays an important role here on campus, facilitating cooperation in between the different residencies. Deondre’ Jones went in search of what the ICR has planned for the upcoming school year.If you’ve ever seen the movies at the cinema in Witherspoon, or any of the concerts they put on throughout the year, then you are familiar with the Union Activities Board. Andrew was curious about what kind of activities they’re lining up for this year.If you are currently out of work and you live in the Raleigh-Durham area, you are in luck. Kepplinger magazine recently named Durham as the second best city in the country to find a job.The dark knight rises opened not long ago, to critical success. But with it came a tragedy still be felt across the country. Jake thought it would be nice to visit a time when Batman wasn’t quite so dark.

Lumberjack competition: The Stihl Timbersports Collegiate Championship is basically exactly what it sounds like; a competition to find the best lumberjack out there. This year, the twenty-twelve Stihl Timbersports Collegiate Southern Qualifier was held right here at N.C. State. Deondre’ Jones spoke with the coordinator of the event.Fracking: Senate Bill Eight Twenty was passed late last night, when the North Carolina legislature overrode governor Beverly Perdue’s veto. The bill made fracking legal in the state of North Carolina.Andy Griffith: On July 3rd, 2012, North Carolina lost a great son; Andy Griffith died at the age of eighty-six.

There are a lot of changes happening in the NC State University area, so in today’s show, we’ve got two stories on that topic. One is about the Hillsborough roundabout changes and the other about some stores on Hillsborough that are scheduled to be torn down shortly. Then, we give a bit of insight into the Wolfline Driver that passed away in December. Lastly, Deondre’ brings us his restaurant highlight of the week.

Economic: There’s an old saying about politics; “It’s the economy, stupid.” What kind of economic impact would Amendment One have on North Carolina? Jake went to find out more.Legal: By its very nature, a constitutional amendment carries enormous legal implications for citizens all around the state. Deondre’ went in search of just how it is this amendment will change the legal face of our state.Sociological: Everyone can talk about the legal and economic effects of an amendment like this. But at the end of the day, it affects real people.Restaurant of the week: Centro, a Mexican restaurant in downtown Raleigh.

With school now out, many NC State students have gone home for the Summer. But for those of us who live here in Raleigh, life goes on. First, Jake starts off with a tribute to our city.Theatrefest is a celebration of what else? Theatre. It’s being held right here on campus, and it starts this Thursday. Deondre’ Jones sat down with the Theatrefest Director, John  Makowee, to discuss the Theatre and Theatrefest.Eugenics is an unfortunate part of the history of North Carolina. Mark Herring recently spoke with a member of the NC Justice for Sterilization Victims Foundation to see what is being done to correct the injustices.Deondre’ Jones lets us know which restaurants are a must hit and which ones to avoid.

As exams bear down upon all of us, sometimes we are our own worst enemy. Grant Buckner went around campus recently to find out what is keeping the Wolfpack from studying.The lives of emergency workers can be highly stressful. So stressful, in fact, that there has been a recent rise in the number of suicides among emergency service workers. Deondre’ Jones recently sat down with an advocate for preventing suicide among our nation’s emergency responders.Chris Hughes was at NC State not too long ago, speaking about the rise of social media in a constantly evolving world and the role it plays in the newsroom.Roller Derby seems to have gotten more popular in the past few years. Jake recently spoke with the Carolina Rollergirls, the Triangle’s very own roller derby team, about the rapidly growing sport.As the Triangle continues to be one of the most rapidly growing population centers in the United State, some see the need for a more comprehensive public transit system. Nick spoke with an advocate for the Wake COunty

The Hunger Games took the world by storm when it was released not too long ago. The movie adaptation of the enormously popular book was filmed right here in the mountains of North Carolina. Grant Buckner sat down with someone who had the opportunity to play an extra.Dave once again tells us about the different Holidays that fall upon this week.

Occupy Raleigh - Nine Occupy protestors were arrested this week in Raleigh after trespassing on a foreclosed home. Andrew has the scoop.Nature Research Center - If you’ve been downtown lately, you’ve probably noticed a giant globe under construction.  Yes, the Daily Planet has come to Raleigh, as part of the Natural Science Museum’s brand new Nature Research Center, which is set to open on April 20th.  Deondre’ Jones recently sat down with the director of science communications for the new center.Beer Brewing - Brewing is fast becoming one of the most popular interests among young entrepreneurs.  So popular, in fact, that NC State recently began offering courses in the brewing sciences.  Mark speaks to a student in the program.NCSU Rocketry - Each year, NASA hosts a University Student Launch Initiative.  Nick recently spoke with the NC State team to discuss their plan’s for this year’s competition.

Herman Cain - Herman Cain made a lot of noise last fall during his bid for president.  From his infamous quoting of a Pokemon movie to his nine nine nine tax plan, Mr. Cain sure knows how to make himself heard.  Mark Herring was at the fair grounds to hear him speak at the twenty twelve Wake County GOP Republican Convention.Cow Milking Contest - In case you missed it, last week was Ag week, an NC State tradition that celebrates this university’s close history with the agriculture community of North Carolina.  The celebrations included games, food, and contests, and Jake was right there in the middle of it all.The People’s Crisis Screening - The humanitarian crisis in North Korea is no secret to the international community. Although Kim Jong Il is gone, it seems the situation is not getting any better.  Last week, the activist group Liberty in North Korea paid a visit to our campus, screening their film “The People’s Crisis” in the Witherspoon Student Cinema.  Deondre’ Jones has more.

Guatemala and Chicago Service Work - Two of our contributors spent their Spring Breaks doing something a little different than most college students.  And although their missions took them to completely different parts of the world, their missions were very similar: helping those less fortunate than themselves.Holi Color Festival - Mark’s uncanny ability to be anywhere anything interesting happens led him to Harris Field, the site of this year’s on-campus Holi celebration, otherwise known as the Hindu Festival of Color.Military Budget - The United States has the biggest military budget of any developed nation in the world.  It has often been called runaway, and recently politicians have begun to speak of cutting military spending.  Deondre’ Jones offers his thoughts on our country’s military budget.Birdemic - Could this be the worst movie in existence?  Jake reviews a move of epidemically bad proportions.

Smoking Ban Bill - Historically, tobacco has been one of the biggest cash crops here in the Tar Heel State.  From the Tobacco District in Durham to the American Tobacco Trail, it has played a large role in our history, including right here at N.C. State.
