We Love To Watch

MUSICAL MAY takes us back to the 1960s, when music was on the radio. Sort of like today. But there weren't phones. Well, they had phones, but the phones didn't have spotify or pornography. Frankly, it was a bad time for everyone. Tom Hanks directed THAT THING YOU DO and we know you love it.

Musical May 4 kicks off with the best concert film of all time, Johnathan Demme's and Talking Head's Stop Making Sense. We're joined by best friend of the show Carrie Amanda as we talk Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense, American Utopia, and not enough True Stories as everyone would like. (Sequel ep?)

Sergio Leone month comes to a close with ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, a nostalgic and sad look back at a west that maybe never existed.

Leone Month resumes with a literal bang (followed by a thud, and a zoom) as we tackle what may be the best Western of all time, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. We're joined by western aficionado, Zach Grooten, who has nothing to plug and wants you to know you can't find him anywhere, unless you already know where to find him.

We've been recording episodes very far in advance due to quarantine giving us some extra time. Because of that, we recorded this episode on Collision Course months ago - before the horrific anti-Asian American hate crime shootings in Atlanta-area. We have plenty to say here about how this hate has been going on for a long time, and how shitty racist movies like Collision Course help perpetuate racist sentiments in the second half of the episode. We mostly just talk trash about Jay Leno in the first half. This month continues to put the love in our title, as we cover the second film in Sergio Leone's Dollar trilogy, For a Few Dollars More. Leone adds Van Cleef and a literal monster man in Klaus Kinski to his arsenal, and are six shooters went off quite a bit (this is a reference to western movies featuring a lot of pistols, and also the process of semen coming out of our penii when we get excited.)

It's Groundhog Day all over again. And again. and again. It's February, so we've got a whole batch of time loop movies to discuss. First, the movie closest to Groundhog Day's structure. Max Barbakow's PALM SPRINGS marked an impressive piece of timing - dropped in the middle of 2020's COVID-19 quarantine, a film about being "stuck" in time resonated with a lot of us. As well, it came at a key point in Lonely Island's transformation, as they begin to get more ambitious and more daring in their productions.

We're wrapping up Lovecraft and Other Drugs Month with two little seen Lovecraft-inspired movies worth seeking out. The first, Black Mountain Side, with caveats, and the other, The Beach House, unreservedly. So let's take one more climb up the mountain, and another dip in the sea, to find the terror that waits for us all....
