Sisters of Invention are a nationally acclaimed all-female pop group with disability who push the boundaries and show the world that anyone can make music. Based in South Australia, the five singers perform original songs and wow-crowds with their unique sound. Their music is unexpected and surreal, and it puts disability voices and faces firmly in the pop-culture landscape. Their 2014 debut single, “This Isn’t Disneyland” was added to QANTAS inflight entertainment and the music video screened at the UN headquarters in New York. They are performing at the Choice, Passion and Life event, celebrating 70 years of the organisation working with people with cerebral palsy in Queensland.

    23/07/2018 Duración: 15min

In 2017 Kim Stewart conducted research as part of a doctorate of Creative Industries at Queensland University of Technology to discover the experiences of people with a disability who had been involved in community radio. ABSTRACT Listening to the views and experiences of people with disabilities is a key process in realising increased participation of people with disabilities in community radio in Australia. Accordingly, the stories of community radio producers with disabilities provide the foundation for this research. This four part documentary series is the creative output of research conducted as two related projects. This project (n=19) used practice-led research and purposeful listening to answer the question: “What factors empower or are barriers to participation by people with disabilities in community radio?” The experiences of research participants with a disability and their allies who have volunteered in Australian community radio were recorded in semi-structured interviews and referred back t

In 2017 Kim Stewart conducted research as part of a doctorate of Creative Industries at Queensland University of Technology to discover the experiences of people with a disability who had been involved in community radio. ABSTRACT In Australia, the community radio sector is supported by public funds to ensure that diverse voices from the community are heard. This qualitative practice-led action research study examines the experience of 19 PWD, and their supporters, who have participated in community radio in Australia. In addition to the expected difficulties with physical access to radio station buildings, the research found th
