Why Big Tech needs to be regulated
26/04/2022 Duración: 15minDebates have raged for years of whether and to what extent Big Tech - often known as the Big Four (Amazon, Meta/Facebook, Google and Apple) - should be regulated. As Rob Cox, global editor for Reuters Breakingviews, says in this episode: “The horse has bolted on this one”. So the matter turns to what kind of regulations should be put in place and for what purpose. Will regulation only serve to shore up Big Tech interests like the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act did for Wall Street in 2010, or will it force greater accountability, transparency, and end user protection as legislation like GDPR hoped to in Europe? Ailish Campbell, ambassador to the European Union with Global Affairs Canada and Christian Lanng, co-founder and CEO of supply chain startup Tradeshift, debated these issue as they spoke on Centre Stage at Web Summit 2021, moderated by Rob Cox."The best technology conference on the planet".Follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin. --- Send in a voice message:

Why remote work doesn’t work for everyone
12/04/2022 Duración: 19minWorking from home became de rigeur during the pandemic and it has widespread benefits. People have been able to work from the comfort of their own homes while complying with Covid-19 restrictions.Remote-first also meant companies could widen the net and hire abroad, effectively “pulling up global wages in developing markets in ways that would have been very surprising only a few years ago” according to Jeremy Johnson, CEO of software developer recruitment company Andela. However, women have been impacted disproportionately. Fifty four million women left the global workforce in 2020 during the pandemic says Kristin Luck, president of not for profit business analytics organisation ESOMAR.Jeremy Johnson and Kristin Luck were in conversation with Euronews journalist Pascale Davies on the Remote stage at Web Summit 2021."The best technology conference on the planet".Follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/websummit/message

Low code tech powers 75% of all enterprise software | Hanna Hennig, CIO of Siemens
01/03/2022 Duración: 16minLow-code technology helped build 75 percent of all enterprise software in 2021, according to Forrester and Gartner analysts. In fact, according to a 2021 Siemens survey, 75 percent of IT leaders say the no-code/low-code trend is something their organisation cannot afford to miss. Hanna Hennig, CIO at Siemens, talks about how digital technology – which is transforming society – needs low-code and no-code. This is especially true in manufacturing, where 80 percent of tasks can now be automated. With this level of automation comes a fivefold demand for developers, she says. And this has led to the rise of what is known as the citizen developer – an employee who develops apps for use by themselves and others on their team. Low-code techniques give programming skills to non-professional developers.Hanna was speaking on the FullSTK stage at Web Summit 2021."The best technology conference on the planet".Follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.

That’s twice the heat of flowing lava.Carlos Garcia-Galan was speaking on the DeepTech stage at Web Summit 2021.
