The Oscar nominations come out THIS TUESDAY, so we've got you prepared and ready with our annual predictions in each of the major six categories. Is it a "Three Billboards Over Ebbing, Missouri" year? Can "Get Out" or "Lady Bird" crash the party? Has everybody forgotten about "The Post" and "Dunkirk?" Pixar has a new movie out, "Coco," and it's one of the best-reviewed movies of the year. But one of us is not into it at all. We dig into the animated hit. Then, we sing the praises of the wondrous summer romance "Call Me By Your Name" before touching, briefly, on "The Darkest Hour." The goofiness comes in our Reboot segment, the last Reboot of 2017. They may have tried to hide "Justice League"'s Rotten Tomatoes score, but they can't hide the movie from us. This week, we did into the latest DC Comics movie fiasco, which is better than "Batman v. Superman" ... bu t not good. Then, two Netflix releases, both worth watching. "Mudbound," and "Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond," about Jim Carrey and Andy Kaufman, but mostly Jim Carrey. The biggest story in entertainment is the increasingly horrific stories involving Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and others, and we discuss how we talk about movies, and off-screen scandals, and whether we can truly ever separate the two. Hardly anyone went to see either of the two new movies we're talking about this week. They are still worthy of discussion! So this week, we dig into George Clooney's Coen fanfic "Suburbicon," and Jason Hall's "American Sniper" followup "Thank You For Your Service." Then we head all the way back to 1962 for our Reboot segment, and discuss John Frankenheimer's notorious (and pretty brilliant) "The Manchurian Candidate." Yorgos Lanthimos had one of the indie hits of last year with "The Lobster," and now he's back with "The Killing of a Sacred Deer," starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman and "Dunkirk" star Barry Keoghan. Diehard fans waited more than 30 years for it, and now it's here: The sequel to "Blade Runner," "Blade Runner 2049," a long, thoughtful, gorgeous film that both nods to and exceeds the original. Director Denis Villeneuve's film is challenging, thoughtful and ambitious, but it's also far from perfect. We dig into it, and there's plenty to dig into. Also, we look at the plane-crash romance "The Mountain Between Us" and the much-praised indie "The Florida Project."
