Black and White Experiences
12/09/2019 Duración: 54minSit down and get comfortable, or uncomfortable, as three friends talk about some sensitive issues. Joe and Jimmy are joined by Travell Rounds for an hour long episode where Travell shares his recent run-in with the cops, and this becomes the start of a conversation on differing experiences of blacks and whites within the same city. Conversations like this can help us learn how to listen to each other and understand one another’s experiences. Joe predicts 1.2% of our audience will unsubscribe half way through this episode. How did Travell wind up at Redeemer Fellowship? Did he really start preaching at 9 years old? Why should white people pay careful attention to the experiences of African Americans? What about “white privilege?” Plus, Travell thanks Steve Furtick for exposing him to Matt Chandler. Our Sponsor Together for the Gospel is going down April 14-16, 2020 in Louisville, KY. You're Not The Hero
22/08/2019 Duración: 24minJimmy brings up one of Joe’s tweets related to contending for the faith, and they spend some time discussing the meaning behind it. Too often we think of ourselves as the hero in the midst of conflict, which can lead us to think of opponents as villains, and excuse our methods or approach even if wrong. Those who think of themselves as the hero will lack the humility needed to honor the Lord.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/doctrine-and-devotion/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

How did they prefigure Christ? Joe and Jimmy take a look at the tabernacle and how it ultimately points to Jesus Christ. A Back to School Prayer
15/08/2019 Duración: 30minThe guys are back, school is in session, and Joe doesn’t know Roman numerals. On this episode the guys talk through John Calvin’s Prayer on Preparing to Go to School. It’s a beautiful and helpful prayer that can guide both students and parents in praying through the beginning of the school year. You can read the prayer below in its entirety, and you can order the seven volume set of John Calvin’s Tracts and Letters by Banner of Truth here. Prayer on Preparing to Go to School O LORD, who art the fountain of all wisdom and learning, since thou of thy special goodness hast granted that my youth is instructed in good arts which may assist me to honest and holy living, grant also, by enlightening my mind, which otherwise labours under blindness, that I may be fit to acquire knowledge; strengthen my memory faithfully to retain what I may have learned: and govern my heart, that I may be willing and even eager to profit, lest the opportunity which thou now givest me be lost through my sluggishness. The 1689 on God's law (19.2)
12/08/2019 Duración: 26minThe guys are back on the 1689 in Chapter 19, paragraph 2, talking about the law of God written on the heart of man and its subsequent revelation on Mt. Sinai. Before they get into the three-fold division of the law and the three uses of the law (next week), Jimmy and Joe remind us that all are guilty for their disobedience to God’s commands, whether they received them at a mountain, were taught them by their parents, read them in the bible, or never had them articulated to them by anyone in their lives. Founders Follow-Up
30/07/2019 Duración: 24minFounders Ministries recently released a trailer for their forthcoming “cinedoc” that seems to focus on the dangerous presence of liberalism in its various forms present in the church today. Many took issue with the trailer’s tone and some of its content. We discuss that here. In light of the public outcry concerning the trailer many waited for an apology to be issued by Founders Ministries. On July 29th Pastor Tom Ascol, President of Founders Ministries, released a statement detailing the release and the push back of the trailer. There was no apology made in the article, but rather an explanation of their actions and perspective on the matter. Joe and Jimmy sat down to record a bonus episode talking about Founders’ statement, where they agree, and what they take issue with.
