Welcome to the Captain’s Table where we explore the stories that have shaped Star Trek in words. In this chapter Roz and Michael review the sixth novel in the Titan series, Titan: Synthesis, written by James Swallow. Described by the author as “a first-contact story with an action twist”, the novel was released in November 2009 and follows the crew of the Titan as they encounter a strange new civilisation, a familiar face from the past and a deadly new enemy. We get to see Captain Jellico in action and his rather formal command style. This story makes some good references to previous TNG episodes and DS9. The art work by J.K. Woodward is brilliant with some great Ronny Cox likenesses and overall story detail. The Final Verdict: Overall, brilliant!

The crew of the Enterprise gets acquainted with DS9 after ferrying several Starfleet officers to the station. When the officers disappear after entering the wormhole, Picard is placed in charge of the investigation. On Bajor, religious fundamentalists consider the wormhole’s apparent instability as a sign from the Prophets.
