Doctor Who: A Madman With A Box Podcast

The Mad Man boys discuss and speculate on Matt Smith's pending departure. Completely wrong guesses and declarations! Names mentioned and dismissed! Not a tear shed…not that you can hear anyway. And I try really hard not to piss anyone off when we discuss the idea of a gender swap for the Doctor. Sorry for posting this so late and the not regular updates on the site. We've been in SDCC crunch mode for weeks now but enjoy!

It's our review of "The Name of the Doctor"! Theories are floated, disagreements are had, when Ewan and I sit down to discuss the series 7b finale. Is it everything we had hoped it would be? How do we feel about that cliffhanger ending? Will I ever get to ask Steven Moffat the burning questions I still have about the events at Trenzalore? No idea on that last question but the first two definitely get answered in this our last review episode of the podcast for at least a few months.

Our review of "Nightmare in Silver" in which we earn our explicit tag. Even after recording and listening back to this episode I'm not quite sure we really know how we felt overall about Neil Gaiman's second Doctor Who script. We do have pretty strong and clear feelings about some of the elements though and listeners with sensitive ears should be cautious. We also spend a good amount of time talking about our excitement for "The Name of the Doctor." Listen for the cloister bell and you'll know where to turn off if you don't want to be spoiled.

It's our review of "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS" Ewan and I go deep into the bowels of this episode that is jam packed with fanboy moments that would make even the most cynical squee. Our review of "Hide" I just want to apologize in advance for all of the background noise, but this was so much fun to record and the conversation is great. We recorded at Ewan's house this past weekend and roped our significant others into participating...not that it was that difficult to get these two wonderfully opinionated ladies to voice their thoughts. It was all oddly appropriate as well considering Neil Cross' ghost story really was a love story. Awww. I hope you enjoy!

It'sssssss the MMWAB review of "Cold War"...and now that joke has run its course. So did the return of the Ice Warriors (well really an Ice Warrior) get our temperatures rising? It's the MadMan review of "The Bells of Saint John!" New Doctor Who is here! Sorry for a bit of weirdness with the sound on this one folks, but it was recorded whilst I am in England and for some reason that made Ewan sound like he was recording in some kind of tunnel stretching between Los Angeles and London. Anyway, before getting into our episode review, we talk quite a bit about all of the news and spoilers coming out fast and furious regarding the the 50th anniversary episode and then dive right into "The Bells of Saint John." The usual gushing and conflicted feelings regarding Steven Moffat are ever present of course. Let me reiterate though, lost of spoilers and speculation going on in this episode so if you want to go into the next year fresh, you may want to point your ears elsewhere. But if you want to get excited about everythign 2013 holds for us please listen away and as always enjoy!

I suspect Chip gave a listen to the "End of Time" episode and felt moved to action enough come on the podcast and lay down some very strong pro-RTD statements. I have to say despite my Moffat fanboyism and Chip's RTD fanboyism we don't disagree with quite as much as he or I (or you the listeners) were probably thinking that we would. We still have a lively discussion though and I think Chip makes a very strong case for not dismissing the series 4 finale quite as easily as a lot of people do. Ewan joined me all the way from Scotland to talk about this year's Christmas special and as always we had a blast! This episode can barely be called a review. I feel like there was so much I wanted to cover and talk about in regards to "The Snowmen" but I'm pretty sure you all would be bored by that 3 hour episode. It was just that good in my eyes. I'm back! Ken Deep has always been one of my favorite podcasters and it was an utter delight to have him as a guest on the show. Some staunch RTD defending this week from the very smart and talented Matt Munson as we take on the ninth Doctor's second episode. I don't know if we really meant for this to turn into a RTD era vs. Moffat era discussion, but it turned out that way and I think we take a really interesting look at just how much the show has changed since it came back in 2005. There is definitely a lot about RTD's era that I dislike but it has to be said that he really got it right at the beginning and I think Matt and I make a really good case for that. My quest to have every Doctor Who podcaster as a guest continues with James from The Doctor Who Podcast and he brings with him the milestone of a sixth Doctor story for MMWAB! It's no secret that I am not the biggest fan of the sixth Doctor, but there really is a lot about "Vengeance on Varos" that supersedes any of my issues with this incarnation of our beloved character. Afterbuzz TV's Roth Cornet joins me this week to talk about a very important episode in the history of modern Doctor Who. I know it has been a few weeks since my last episode but hopefully this episode will more than make up for it because I think it is fantastic. I met Roth at San Diego Comic Con this year and we immediately hit it off over our love of all things Who. We decided right off the bat that we wanted to talk about this series 5 2-parter because of the important part it played in not only the larger Doctor Who mythology but behind the scenes of the show as well. Toby Whithouse puts the Doctor, Amy and Rory in the American wild west and Nerdist.com's Kyle Anderson joins me to figure out if this episode is as good as I think it is... This episode was shot in the same locations as some of the classic spaghetti westerns and features a terminator-esque character called the Gunslinger what could possibly go wrong?
