Lakers Talk With Allen Sliwa

With the Lakers losing a huge game to the New Orleans Pelicans over the weekend, Sliwa looks at the chances of the Lakers getting in the play in tournament with the San Antonio Spurs "right on the heels" of the Lakers. Allen has a theory that teams will try to do "whatever they can" do keep the Lakers out the playoffs. Also, an update on the status of LeBron's ankle and AD's possible return "sooner rather than later." Plus, LA Times' Brad Turner calls in to talk about what he's seen from the Lakers during their road trip and his thoughts on their chances of making the play-in tournament. Then, a preview of this week's games, which include a rematch with the New Orelans Pelicans.

Sliwa started the show wondering if the Lakers, especially Russell Westbrook, are starting to "turn it around" after 3 hard fought games that resulted in 2 wins in the past week. And, LeBron has been breaking all kinds of records recently, so Sliwa took time to reflect on his greatness. Also, to talk more about LeBron, the Lakers and all other things NBA, was ESPN's Brian Windhorst. Plus, Sli looks ahead to this week's big 76ers/Lakers matchup and what it means for both teams.

Sliwa opened up the show talking about the Lakers' "lack of fire" to start games lately and how they have big deficits at the beginning of games. Also, Allen reacts to the comments that Anthony Davis made about last season's 1st Round series loss to the Phoenix Suns. And, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith says the Lakers could "have a shot" in this season's playoffs if they matched up against the Memphis Grizzlies and Sliwa disagrees. Then, a look ahead to the Lakers' big 4 game road trip which includes a trip to Minnesota to face Karl Anthony-Towns, who just had 60 points in a recent game.

Sliwa started off the show giving an update on LeBron James' knee for the Lakers' next game vs the Houston Rockets. Plus, reaction to Magic Johnson's comments that if the Lakers don't make the playoffs, the Russell Westbrook trade was the worst trade in Lakers' history. Then, Lakers Nation's Trevor Lane joined Sliwa to talk about Russell Westbrook's recent play, the team's woes lately, and decision making process among the Lakers' front office. Also, Sliwa looked ahead to what comes ahead this week for the Lakers. 

With the Lakers electing to make a trade before last week's NBA Trade Deadline, Sliwa thinks the Lakers didn't have "enough assets" to get a real trade done. And, how active will the Lakers be on the buyout market? Sliwa thinks they could make a couple moves within the market, including saying "hello to an old friend." Plus, Sli has a revelation: He's lost faith in Anthony Davis. Also, Sliwa reacts to LeBron James passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for on the All-Time (regular season and postseason) points list.  Then, Allen reacted to the last week's NBA Trade deadline that saw blockbuster deal between the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers.

Allen opened the show a little concerned with the Lakers upcoming schedule that have the Lakers pitted up against playoff teams. Then, Sliwa proposed a "not-so crazy" idea for the Lakers: Have Russell Westbrook come off the bench. Also, why isn't Anthony Davis talked about more when the topic of "best big man" in the NBA comes up? Then, ESPN's Bobby Marks came on with Sliwa to talk about the Lakers' options at this Thursday's NBA Trade Deadline and also what they could do in the buyout market. Plus, a look ahead to this week's Lakers/Bucks matchup.

Sliwa opened up the show with look back on the annual Lakers "Grammys Road Trip." Also, is Russell Westbrook more effective "by himself" or "with teammates?" And, Sli looks at what trade assets the Lakers have, and if it’s a good idea to "trade or not to trade." Then, Sli looks ahead at the Lakers' homestand which includes matchups vs the Portland Trail Blazers and the LA Clippers. Spectrum's Mike Bresnahan called in to talk to Sli about what the Lakers plan on doing with LeBron's and AD's injuries and how they view the NBA Trading Deadline. Plus, Allen goes across the league with some of the top NBA stories.

The Lakers got big news today in that Anthony Davis is close to returning to the court since being out since mid-December. Sliwa reacts to the good news and if AD could "the savior" that the Lakers need in the 2nd half of the season. Plus, why isn't AD in the Jokic/Embiid best big man debate? Then, Sli talked a little about all the crazy, wacky trade rumors out there with more than a month to go for the February NBA Trade Deadline. The Athletic's Jovan Buha joined Allen to talk about AD's return, what it means for the team and if his return will "spark" the Lakers' 2nd half of the season.  Also, Sliwa looks ahead to the rest of the Grammy trip.

Sliwa started off the show with the Lakers' huge win vs the Utah Jazz and what it means for the team. Then, Sli talked about the Athletic report that had Frank Vogel on the "hot seat." Also, Anthony Davis should be back soon, but Sliwa wonders if he's the "Savior" of the season.  Then, ESPN's Brian Windhorst joined Allen to give his impressions of the Lakers more than halfway through the season and why the Lakers need "AD to be AD" to win a title. Also, Sli looked ahead at the Lakers "Grammys trip."

Allen gets real about where the Lakers are at this point in the season. Do you still have faith in this Lakers squad? Allen expresses how it felt to see Anthony Davis shoot around the basketball but what does that actually mean? Plus, Trevor Lane of Lakers Nation joins Allen. And, let's go around the NBA. 

First show for the New Year of 2022 but Sli thinks the Lakers are still playing inconsistently even after a two game win streak. Allen is also a little concern that Russell Westbrook will basically “shrug his shoulders” after having a 9 turnover game.  And, reaction to the Rajon Rondo trade that sent him to the Cleveland Cavs. Then, Sliwa looks ahead to the week for the Lakers and Brooklyn’s Kyrie Irving’s first game this season. 

The Lakers take a loss against the Chicago Bulls, but don't be too disappointed Lakers fans. Anthony Davis will be out for at least four weeks, how concern should we be? Sliwa share his thoughts on the past few Laker games. Allen recalls a memorable day for Laker fans but specifically for Kobe Bryant fans, Sliwa is joined by The Athletics Lakers beat writer, Jovan Buha. Jovan shared his thoughts on Anthony Davis and on how he hasn't given up on the Lakers just yet. And, Allen goes around the NBA and looks ahead the Lakers schedule.

Could we see Ben Simmons in the purple and gold? Sliwa doesn't think so but he does want to see Detroit's Jerami Grant in a Laker uniform. Also, is there a real possibility that the Lakers "give up" on the Russell Westbrook experiment? Plus, Sliwa takes a look at the real value of having or not having Talen Horton-Tucker on the roster. And, with COVID hitting sports hard right now, Sliwa looks at how the Lakers are affected by the recent outbreak. And, he looks ahead to what’s next for the Lakers.
