Baxie talks to Steve McDonald from Redd Kross! “The Most Important Band in America"! The stories behind Steve and his older brother Jeff are the stuff of inconceivable legend! Since starting the band in 1978 (at the ages of 11 and 14) Redd Kross has gone on to become one of the most influential bands in Punk, Glam, Grunge, and Power Pop! Their story has not only been featured in an amazing documentary; “Born Innocent” it’s also being told in an upcoming memoir entitled “Now You’re One of Us”! On top of that, Redd Kross has just released their 9th album—their self-titled double album (which is arguably one of the best of their career). Steve talks all about it PLUS about his time with The Melvins, the punk supergroup OFF!, and Tenacious D! He also was part of the sessions for the first album by Jellyfish (which, as you are aware, is another one of my all-time favorites)! He even toured as the bass player for Sparks! Baxie talks to one of his all time favorites—multi-instrumentalist Harold “Happy” Chichester! Happy’s incredible career began with the Columbus, Ohio based band The Royal Crescent Mob! This was a band that was (and continues to) to hold a special place in my home collection of entirely too many records. But his career hardly stopped there. He was a one-time member of The Afghan Whigs, The Twilight Singers, and Howlin’ Maggie! On top of that he’s release three amazing solo records. He was also heavily courted by Dave Grohl to join The Foo Fighters (an offer he turned down to keep working on his own music). Grohl has even referred to him as one of the best songwriters in America (which I agree with!). It’s a special episode with a guy that I’ve wanted to talk to for the last 40 years.
