Strange Highways

This week Terry and Paul head down to a dreary basement and meet Mr. Barney Schlessinger, a man that is compelled to keep inventing things even when it may be costing him his marriage. He always felt like he was never in the right place or time and with the discovery of a hidden door, he might be right... 

This week Terry and Paul barely stop by a dorm room that has a pair of unexpected guests hiding out of sight in the shortest segment the Twilight Zone has ever done...

This week Terry and Paul get to the galleria just before closing time and meet Ms. Marsha Cole, who is just trying to find a last minute birthday gift. With all of the businesses closed, Marsha is being watched closely by those that remain in the after hours...  

This week Terry and Paul tune into KGRR and listen to Ms. Andrea Fields, a late night DJ that is unhappy and alone. While playing an album made by her former partner, she faces her past figuratively and literally... 

This week Terry and Paul ride a dusty old bus back to 1933 and meet Miss Dorothy Livingston, a substitute teacher that is filling in for three months. She is cautioned by the teacher leaving to let young Micah Frost always have access to the library no matter what...

This week Terry and Paul happen to wander into a surprise 40th birthday party for Christie, a successful news anchor that is starting to worry that she is getting to old to be in front of the camera. A co-worker of hers hands her a flask that appears to be just plain water but it does much more than hydrate... 

This week Terry and Paul go wandering off to the woods and meet Jeff, a lonely kid who shares time between recently divorced parents. When his father tells him to go  outside and use his imagination to create his own fun, Jeff meets Mike, another young kid that wants to play... 

This week Terry and Paul take a sad walk along the beach at night and meet Margaret, a waitress who just wants to find love and acceptance. She lived a very lonely life until one day a mysterious object in the sky choose her to receive its message... 

This week Terry and Paul start Season 2 of the 1980's Twilight Zone and meet Mr. Gary Pitkin, an Elvis impersonator that enjoys performing the earlier works of Elvis but thinks the later stuff was not rock n' roll. After a near fatal encounter with a drunk driver, Gary comes face to face with the man himself... 

This week Terry and Paul round out the last of their detours before starting season 2 of the 1980's Twilight Zone by looking at a film that could have been an episode of the original series with 1962's Carnival of Souls. Miss Mary Henry, the recent survivor of a car crash, heads west for a job opportunity and for a fresh start. Once there, she feels compelled to go to an odd structure on the edge of the Great Salt Lake and to see who or what is inside... 

This week Terry and Paul continue their detours by racing for pink slips out west with 1986's The Wraith. A mysterious black clad figure is taking out members of a gang one by one in a series of street races with an unearthly car...  

This week Terry and Paul are joined again by Leiann of the Skewered Universe Podcast as they revisit the very first episode of the original Twilight Zone, Where is Everybody? They talk about screaming out breakfast orders, flirting inappropriately with mannequins, and how this episode would set the stage for the series to follow. 

This week Terry and Paul continue their detours and learn the dangers of picking up strangers in 1986's The Hitcher. Other things they learn are about the importance of taking a good shower, avoid driving cars engulfed in flames, and making sure to check french fries before eating them.... 

This week we continue our detours by heading back to the Masters of Horror series and watch the second episode that John Carpenter directed, Pro-Life. A young girl is needing help and ends up at a family planning clinic with her father not far behind trying to get her back. Soon the clinic is under siege by forces man made and supernatural... 

This week Terry and Paul take a detour back to 1971 and visit Steven Spielberg's first film, Duel. Based upon a short story by Richard Matheson, it is a tale of how one random encounter can lead to a deadly game of cat and mouse on a two lane road in the middle of nowhere... 

This week Terry and Paul take a detour into some more Black Mirror with the season 6 episode, Demon 79. Nida lives a quiet life selling shoes in a department store. One day, after being forced to eat her lunch in the basement due to her terrible coworker's complaints, Nida finds a strange talisman that may or may not cause the world to end... 

This week Terry and Paul are joined by friend of the show Richard to take a look back across season one of the 80's iteration of the Twilight Zone. They cover their Bottom 5, Middlin'/Frustrating 5, and Top 5 segments of the season.  Thanks to everyone that has joined us in this very long journey through this season. 1 down, 2 to go!
