The festival season is here, so the Independent Music Podcast is kicking off its annual series of festival specials. This week, all our tracks are from bands playing Raw Power Festival. There's nothing like completely transforming an Abba track for your first music in six years, but that's what Portishead have done with SOS. It’s a week of lengthy musical explorations with a podcast clocking in at 80 minutes. We kick off with some great modern reggae sounds from Adam Prescott, and we’ve got new ones from Pye Corner Audio, Dog Chocolate, Necro Deathmort, Casual Nun, Gemma Ray, and a mammoth 14-minuter from Laniakea. We've also got covers performed by Scotland's Supermoon and Kay Dennis, as well as a tribute to the late, great Clarence Reid AKA Blowfly.

The Japanese do noisey rock music better than most, and this week's show has ample proof with tracks from Melt-Banana and Piqnic. We've got reissued Greek Jaffa psych from Aris San, as well as new tracks from Future Punx, abstract sound artist Thomas Köner, and Salford-based electronics master Howes.

Your first podcast of 2016 features lots of interesting new releases. From the opening sounds of Markey Funk's heavily Italian library music influenced new faux-horror OST, past the South African hip hop of Luka Productions, sumptuous rhythms from London's Phall Fatale and sampling of Buddha Machine Loops from China and Tibet - this is the usual mix of the weird, the wonderful, and the truly outstanding sounds of independent music.
