Chung: Born in Korea in 1936, Venerable Chung did his undergraduate Studies in Oriental Philosophy at WonKwang University. Upon graduation in 1959, he was ordained as a minister of the Won Buddhist Order. Venerable Bongkil Chung taught English at WonKwang Girls High School until 1967 and then went to America for graduate studies in philosophy. Venerable Chung earned his Ph.D. at Michigan State University in 1979, writing his doctoral dissertation with the title “The Ethics of Won Buddhism.” He taught philosophy, both East and West, at Florida International University for 30 years until he retired in 2009. As a Won Buddhist minister, Venerable Chung established the Miami chapter of The Won Buddhist order in 1987 and served as the head minister of the Won Buddhism of Miami Temple from 1999 to 2005. His publications include: The scriptures of Won Buddhism (2003,UH Press) The Dharma Master Chŏngsan of Won Buddhism (2012, SUNY Press)
