Jesus, you came and you told us that the point of life is loving God and loving people. That's how we glorify God. This is how we bear fruit is through our love and our works. Help us understand that there is no such thing as true love, love as you define it in agape love, a sacrificial love unless we meet Jesus Christ, our Lord and savior. Jesus, we thank you, that you, the God of the universe, you didn't just show us the way, you lived the way, you lived the perfect life of love and obedience, and yet you were crucified. Why? Heavenly father, we thank you that you, the great God of the universe, you chose to love particular people. Before the foundation of the world, you pre-destined, you elected people to salvation. And today, we gather to give you praise for that. Give us a deeper understanding of what it means that we're saved by grace, that it is not of works, that ultimately the reason why we're saved is because you saved us. Ultimately, that decision is yours. And yet your word tells us to repent and believe in Jesus Christ, so we do that today, Lord. We repent of our sin of idolatry, of self-reliance, of selfishness, of thinking that we are sovereign, which we are not. We give all glory to you, not to us, Lord. The title of the sermon is Reign of Grace in Life. A few questions to start things off. Why are people the way they are? You ever ask that question? Why are we the way we are? Why is everyone so selfish? Why is it that everyone condemns others for things that we do ourselves? Why is it that everyone violates the very standards of behavior we hold up as good and right? Why is the most universal experience of humans an uneasy conscience? We know we've done things that we shouldn't have done, and we have not done the things that we should have done. Audio Transcript: Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of life. And I pray, Lord, help us be a church that puts love of life into practice. Help us be a people that love babies, children, support families. Mothers are vital, not just valuable. And help us be a counterculture here in Boston, where we love children more than we love pets or plants. And Lord, we do thank you that we are having conversation about abortion now in our country. We thank you that Roe v. Wade might potentially be overturned. I never thought I'd see that in my lifetime, but, Lord, thank you for that. We pray it does get overturned. We pray that abortion just stops, just pray the need for it is removed. We pray for a great awakening in this nation where people do fear you, they submit to Christ and they accept his grace and they follow the moral law, which would prevent so much bloodshed. Heavenly father, we glorify you. We focus our full attention upon you right now. Help us remove any distractions, any worries, any anxiety and help us focus only on you. We glorify you often in our lives. You're just too small because we aren't glorifying you. We're glorifying things ourselves. We pray, remove all of that and help us focus on Jesus Christ on his life, his death, his burial, his resurrection. And because of all of everything he's done, we have access to the presence of God with a righteousness that is not our own. That's the prerequisite to be in the family of God to have a righteousness that is perfect. We thank you that when we repent of sin, believe in you, Jesus, you give us that righteousness as a gift. And we thank you, Holy Spirit that you are with us today. And I pray Holy Spirit, minister to us, minister to our souls. If there's any heartache or heartbreak, I pray today.
