415 Chris McCormack: "Don't Underestimate the Power of a Dream"
14/12/2022 Duración: 56minChris McCormack is a man who moved seamlessly between his life as a professional triathlete (2x Kona Champion, multiple World Champion) and his new business career. As the man behind SuperLeague Triathlon, he has been pivotal in helping ‘professionalise’ the sport of triathlon, giving athletes chance to race (and make money) from short course racing outside of a traditional governing body route. It’s a series that turned triathlon into a more spectator friendly format and made short racing exciting for the general public. As one of the founders of the Pho3nix Foundation, he’s helping fund hundreds of children and young athletes from disadvantaged backgrounds to be able to achieve their potential in Olympic sport. More than that, Macca is one of the biggest fans of triathlon, and one of it’s big thinkers, and we hear his views on where he sees triathlon going next, we review the 2022 triathlon year, and talk about who will be the names to watch in 2023. 414 Andrew Messick on the future of Ironman Hawaii
07/12/2022 Duración: 44minJoining us on the show this week is the CEO of the Ironman Group, Andrew Messick. Ironman announced late last week that there would be NO two day World Championships in Hawaii in 2023, and that instead, the event will be a split location event. What was the behind the scenes reality that athletes don't yet understand? When can we expect confirmation of the location and date of the men’s event? Is there a possibility of the race moving from Kona in the future? We put all these questions to the CEO - listen in to hear what he has to say. Sponsors Like what you heard in this interview? 411 Age Group Story: Dr. Karim Hammad
16/11/2022 Duración: 01h02minDr. Karim Hammad recently competed at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in St. George. A busy doctor, he’s had to learn to balance his desire to train against the realities of his job: 12 hour on-call shifts, night shifts and the challenges of unpredictable work load and lack of routine. His story involves a lot of acceptance of needing to train around ‘the way things are’ rather than ‘the way we would ideally like things to be’, and his success qualifying for the World Championships underlines the importance for all of us of putting recovery, and health, first. 410 Dave Scott: Finding Balance
09/11/2022 Duración: 57minFrom the Archives: Dave Scott Dave Scott is already well known for his achievements - 6 time winner of Ironman Hawaii between 1980 and 1987, successful coach to champion athletes like Chrissie Wellington, Craig Alexander, Tim Don and Julie Dibens. What is less well known is his ongoing battle with depression that has, at times, left him unable to get off the couch. Dave is open and honest about the challenges he’s faced - how, despite the World regarding him as ‘The Man’, and his countless race successes, striving for perfection and falling short often left him feeling worthless. And he also shares about how, with time, he’s come to see things differently, how his children have helped him, and how, in turn, he’s managed to help other highly driven and obsessive athletes find a little more balance - as well as World Championship victories. We also hear Dave’s thoughts on the efforts of the PTO and their aim of making the sport more professional. Sign up for Dave’s free fortnightly newsletter covering a wi
