Logan and Ali are back for our penultimate episode of the Harry Potter binge, this week discussing Deathly Hallows part 1, and while it drags at times, this movie is 2.5 hours of setting up for the final battle between Harry Potter and Voldemort. We look back at the 12 year journey of the release of the HP movies, and compare the production to 'Boyhood' and Avengers, but there has really never been a blockbuster series as ambitious in its' scope as the HP franchise. We then dive into the narrative and discuss themes of choices, redemption, and morality as the trio branch off from their yearly Hogwarts excursion to attempt to destroy all the Horcrux's. A journey that separates them from the wizarding world for much of the plot, before being thrust back into the Malfoy's residence for an epic conclusion, and maybe the saddest death in the whole series. Ali and Logan and back discussing Harry Potter, this week we're covering chapter 6 of the story, the Half Blood Prince. This film is clearly an extended good bye to the friendship between Harry and Dumbledore, while also setting up the end game for the final battle between Voldermorts army and all that is good in the world. The theme of loss of innocence and not being able to trust anyone is present throughout this story as we explore Snapes journey from a outsiders perspective knowing his true intentions and the agreement he had with Dumbledore. We are also introduced to Dumbledore's old friend, Professor Slughorn, as his mind contains an important memory related to Tom Riddle's earliest sinister creation of the horcrux's. Logan and Ali are back to discuss Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the first film to start setting up the series finale. With Voldemort officially back, Harry and Co are tormented by not only his return, but also the introduction of Professor Umbridge which finally gives the audience a deeper look into the corruption of the Ministry of Magic. With it becoming ever more apparent that there will be a war between good and evil coming later on, Order of the Phoenix starts introducing characters like Bellatrix Lestrange to show the depth of Voldemorts army and the real and present danger they represent. This was clearly one of the toughest books to adapt because of the colossal size of the novel, so obviously some major cuts needed to be made, so how did David Yates do in his first foray into the Potter franchise? Ali and Logan butt heads about Luna Lovegood and Ali finally comes clean about her IRL Neville Longbottom home wrecker story.

Logan and Ali are halfway through their Harry Potter binge and this week we're breaking down the Tri-Wizard tournament inside the Goblet of Fire. We get to experience a bit of the Quidditch World Cup, but is it anything more than a narrative device to introduce the Deatheaters? The Wizarding World is ever expanding in this movie with the introduction of the other two schools for the tournament, but what is it that makes Goblet stand out from the other films in the series? Cedric, Fleur, and Krum are all new main characters introduced to the story and each have their strengths within the tournament, is the audience given enough time to connect with them, though? Logan and Ali are finally onto chapter 3 of the Harry Potter franchise with Prisoner of Azkaban and there's a lot of backstory regarding the production and how the producers landed on Alfonso Cuaron before we dive deep into the themes and narrative of this film. Curaon's fingerprints are all over Prisoner, which needed a visionary director to thrust the Potter franchise into a darker and grittier realm. While there may be one giant time travel sized flaw with this film, it is a masterwork of foreshadowing later stories for the greater series while also being a sort of spin off story because of the lack of Voldemort in the film. Why has the general public been mislead about what really happened with Sirius Black? How much knowledge did Dumblebore actually have of the time traveling plan?
