Both are important aspects of discipleship (remember the Good Samaritan from last week?), so don't try to pit Mary and Martha against each other. Jesus condemns neither, but exalts Mary for infiltrating a man's world. The letter to the Colossians contains a word of peace and grace to an anxious people. It is not about condemning the Colossians for their apostasy, but encouraging them in their anxiety.

NOTES AND COMMENTARY 2 Kings 2:1-2, 6-14 Luke 9:51-62 Galatians 5:1, 13-25 Psalm 77:1-2, 11-20 Voice in the Wilderness: Casey Wait Faith and Wonder Story Divine @caseyfitzgerald Psalmist: Richard Bruxvoort Colligan Psalmimmersion.com @pomopsalmist Patreon SUMMARY In this episode Casey Wait shares a reflection Elijah's ride into heaven. In the Gospel reading, Jesus "determines to go to Jerusalem," the disciples ask to call down some "Shock and Awe" on cities who do not welcome them. How do we respond when the Good News is rejected? How should we respond? What is the balance between faithful prophetic witness and angry retaliation? Then Jesus gives warnings to a few who want to follow. The Galatians reading examines the relationship between freedom in Christ and obligations toward others. Just last week we were declaring “There is no slave or free.” And now we are declaring that we are in fact “slaves to one another.” Which is it Paul? We are all free to love, but love is bondage.

NOTES AND COMMENTARY 1 Kings 19:1-15 Luke 8:26-39 Psalm 42 Galatians 3:23-29 PSALMIST IN THE FIELD: Richard Bruxvoort Colligan SUMMARY: We're back into ordinary time so we get to go back to the Gospel of Luke, and we start with a nice simple story about Jesus exorcising demons, sending them into pigs, who then run off a cliff. There is a reason this episode went over an hour. After the Luke text we move into one of the most beloved passages of Paul's body of work, as he declares that "There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither slave nor free; nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Romans 5 is an important passage in the history of the Church, and gives us a chance to examine the idea of boasting in suffering, and the source of our hope. Mason Parks shares a great word about wisdom, and Richard BC covers Psalm 8.

On the eve of Pentecost, we share part of Jesus' prayer from the eve of his crucifixion. His prayer for unity is important to remember, but at what cost? What kind of unity is Jesus praying for? The text from Acts is long, but an interesting story of liberation and captivity. Paul and Silas are arrested for upsetting the cultural and economic status quo. But what about the status quo for the slave girl? How is the jailer liberated? Plus, Nicole Cox has a sorrowful comment on the end of Revelation and Richard BC brings is creativity to Psalm 97/

Once again, they do not recognize him, but when the net overflows the realize it is the Risen Christ in their presence. What's up with 153 fish? Why did Jesus ask Peter that question three times? Many people call the Acts text "Paul's conversion," but is that really the case? First of all, Paul never believes that he stops being Jewish. Secondly, his transformation hasn't happened yet. Plus we have a great piece by Cheryl Kerr on Revelation 5 and Richard BC shares a nugget on Psalm 30.

But of course we must ask, "who exactly is he doubting?" Thomas doubted the other 10, not Jesus. Our Acts discussion centers on Peter's speech about Christ Resurrected! It's not about passing blame, but declaring what is happening now. Plus Max and Susan bring their creative best to an introduction to our introduction to Revelation.
