SOFA KING CLASSIC: Denver Airport Conspiracy
20/04/2021 Duración: 01h01minDaves not here man..... So this week we go back to a throw back with the Denver international airport conspiracy. Thank you for your patience and we will return to our amazingness next week. Opened in 1995, this airport ran more than twice the original budget and included five buildings which were completely buried underground due to supposed “construction complications.” These buildings start a wild set of conspiracy theories about the airport being a hub and an end-of-the world bunker for members of the New World Order (including the Queen of England, who supposedly bought property near the airport). On top of the theoretical bunker, the airport is filled with strange symbols, signs of the Freemasons, and a Masonic time capsule set to open in 2094. The truly strange thing about this airport, however, is the art work. From a seven ton statue of Anubis—the Egyptian god of death—to the 30 foot tall emaciated Blue Mustang horse statue with glowing red eyes known as Blucifer, the statues in this place are baff

Episode 573: Nicholas Cage: Bask in His Glow
16/04/2021 Duración: 01h43minOn this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we bask in the glow that is Nicholas Cage. He comes from film royalty and is the nephew of director Francis Ford Copula, but once he started getting his own film roles, he changed his name to distance himself from the family. Even so, his rise to stardom was pretty meteoric. Once at the top, he started spending money like a lunatic, acting like a lunatic, and starring in some of the best/worst movies ever made (I’m looking at you, Wicker Man). He started in Fast Times at Ridgemont High and within a few years was being directed by some of the best movie makers in Hollywood. He won an Academy Award for best actor in Leaving Las Vegas and helmed the massive franchise, National Treasure. But he’s always seemed a little...unhinged. His acting method is very intense (considered over acting to many), and he has done some epic things in the past to prepare for a role. We cover his crazy spending sprees, his real estate purchases, and the wild stuff he’s bought over the year

Episode 572: Marcel Petiot: Doctor Satan
13/04/2021 Duración: 01h25minOn this episode of the world famous Sofa King Podcast, we talk about one of the strangest serial killers ever. Marcel Petiot was a medical doctor in occupied Paris during World War Two. He somehow convinced people that he was part of a resistance underground and could help smuggle people out of France and away from the Nazis. Instead, he took their money, injected them with cyanide, and burned their bodies in his basement. Oh, and that’s all after he got a medical degree in just a couple of months, became mayor of a town, embezzled from the city he ran, and then killed a couple people though the police couldn’t prove it was him. He ticked all the bad boxes as a serial killer child, and when drafted into World War One, he did everything he could to get out of service. He was a lifelong thief and grifter, being regularly arrested from childhood on. This is a crazy story. It ranges from blowing up his foot with a grenade (on purpose) to killing three pimps. And when a super top secret US spy ring called The Po

Episode 571: The Sun: Hell in the Heavens
09/04/2021 Duración: 01h30minOn this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we look to the heavens and talk about the Sun. It is the primary source of energy for our solar system, and its scale and power are enough to give you anxiety if you really dig into the facts. It has been worshiped as a god in most ancient civilizations, until science started to understand its incredible power. While it gives us heat, light, and solar power, it is also dangerous. We talk about something called a Carrington-Level solar event and how it could end civilization as we know it. It was first observed scientifically by the ancient Babylonians and the Chinese, but Europe got into the game with some Greek scientists as well as Copernicus and Galileo. One of the most terrifying things was a solar storm watched by solar astronomer Richard Carrington in 1859. He saw a storm and soon thereafter, telegraph lines started to burn out and catch fire, and the sky glowed green from Hawaii to Mexico. This event would be catastrophic if it happened now. What would it do

Episode 570: Steven Seagal: Life, Lies, and Lawsuits
06/04/2021 Duración: 01h52minOn this episode of the world famous Sofa King Podcast, we explore the life and lies of one of the strangest men to ever come out of Hollywood, Steven Seagal. Seagal made a huge splash in the realm of action films in with his debut movie Above the Law in 1988. He had a string of films after that because he had spent years as a fight advisor and doing security in the film industry, so he kind of knew what he was doing. But part of that was a myth he created around himself. The myth of Seagal claims he worked for the CIA, had the Gambino crime family put a hit on his head, and went to war with the Yakuza. We know that he worked on everything from James Bond films to protecting 80s star Kelly LeBrock. We also know that he did indeed study various martial arts in Japan and opened several dojos around America before his film career starts. After that, things a bit…confused. For example, he was a cop or something? He claims he worked in a sheriff’s department training them, so they made him a deputy on a TV show (

Episode 569: Thomas Jefferson: The Worst Founding Father
02/04/2021 Duración: 01h42minOn this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we travel back in time and talk about one of the most famous of the Founding Fathers: Thomas Jefferson. To some historians, Jefferson was the most important member of the revolution. He drafted the constitution on his own, and his writings inspired troops and helped forge a government. He rose in rank from a lawyer to Secretary of State and then from Vice President to the 3rd President of the United States. But, he was a man of his times. He owned over 600 slaves, and most historians say he raped his 14 year old slave Sally Hemmings and forced her to father 6 slave children with him. Jefferson was born to wealth on his father’s plantation. He had an amazing education and was truly a renaissance man, dabbling in everything from music to architecture and even paleontology and of course politics. He became a lawyer and politician just as the Revolutionary war broke out, and he became the writer and mouthpiece for the Congressional Congress. He fought for religious free

Episode 568: Barefoot Bandit: A Sasquatch Ninja?
30/03/2021 Duración: 01h35minOn this episode of the world famous Sofa King Podcast, we bring you a strange brew of True Crime and talk about the Barefoot Bandit. If you aren’t from the Pacific Northwest, you may not have heard about this kid, but it’s quite a ride! The Bandit, named Colton Harris Moore, was a teenager who went on an international crime spree. His crimes? Breaks-ins to survive out in the woods, mostly. But then there were a few dozen cars. Oh, and the airplanes that he taught himself how to fly and to steal. Oh, and a crazy boat chase in the Bahamas! The Barefoot Bandit came from a very rough, broken home, and he started to live out in the woods as young as the age of 7. He started to break into vacation homes to survive, something that carried on through his teens. This guy was a genius, evading police endless times by escaping in the woods like a sasquatch ninja. He started on Camano Island in Washington, and eventually was being chased by cops, feds, and an army of organized bounty hunters. What led the Barefoot Bandi

Episode 567: Mao Tse-tung: Starvation, Sex, and Slaughter
26/03/2021 Duración: 01h40minOn this episode of the world famous Sofa King Podcast, we look at the man who most historians call the worst tyrant of all time, Mao Tse-tung. Was he worse than Hitler? Yes. Was he worse than Stalin or Kim Jung Il or Saddam Hussein? Way worse. How? Well, his horrible Great Leap Forward killed upwards of 60 million Chinese due to starvation, overwork, disease, or flat out murder. He forced parents to bury their own children and purged entire classes of people, all to make China a world power. He was born the son of a farmer and excelled in school, but he was forced to quit and work on the farm. When he was old enough, he left and went to school in another town where he was exposed to new communist teachings. He rose through the ranks of the Chinese Communist Party due to his diligence. Eventually, the leader of China died, and the new chairman, Chiang Kai-shek, was against Mao’s party. There was a brutal war where Mao led a guerilla squad of 200,000 men against him, but it was squashed and led to something c

Episode 566: Whitley Strieber: Conman or Communion?
23/03/2021 Duración: 01h48minOn this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we look at the king of alien abduction, Whitley Strieber. Strieber was the author of Communion and several other books about his famous abduction experiences, implants, and encounters with Men in Black. It is his writing that has given us the narrative of a typical abduction, what a gray alien is, and even set the stage of X-Files back in the 1990s. But is it on the level, or was it all a hustle to sell books? Though he had strange encounters even as a child (something typical for abductees), his big experience was when he was taken by “The Visitors” in 1985. A bunch of small, strong aliens (different than the grays), dragged him roughly from his house and jabbed a needle in the back of his skull and did medical experiments. He thought it was a dream, but bruises and a swollen ear in the morning said otherwise. Through the years, he went through hypno therapy to recall all the horrible events that happened every time The Visitors paid a call to him. Eventually, he c

SOFA KING CLASSIC: Chupacabra – Return of the Q-tip lady
19/03/2021 Duración: 01h18minOne last classic episode release before we get back to business. Thank you for being patient. If you want to learn more about the mysterious Chupacabra, listen to this episode of the Sofa King Podcast. In this episode, we delve back into the realm of cryptozoology and discuss the possibility and reality of this allegedly elusive creature. First getting international media attention in 1995 with the discovery of 8 dead sheep in Puerto Rico (which were not eaten but apparently had their blood drained), the Chupacabra literally means “goat sucker.” Within the first year, 200 alleged incidents were reported in Puerto Rico alone. So many animals were found dead that the national guard was called in to search the area looking for the mysterious killer. Since then, the Chupacabra has apparently morphed. Experts claim there are two types, a reptilian type (typically seen in Latin America and the Caribbean) and a canid type (typically seen in the United States). We examine the likelihood of an unknown creature exist

SOFA KING CLASSIC: Nikola Tesla – Laser Pigeon Lover
18/03/2021 Duración: 01h12minAs per listener request, this week’s Sofa King Podcast covers the life and inventions of Nikola Tesla. Born in Croatia in 1856, he was the archetype of the mad scientist. We start the episode with a look at his feud and relationship Thomas Edison. At the heart of this rivalry was a race to provide New York city with electricity. Edison backed DC current, and Tesla wanted the innovative AC current we used today, even though the technology didn’t exist at the time. From George Westinghouse to JP Morgan, Tesla had support from the biggest financiers of his time and created the power plant at Niagara Falls that still provides power to much of New York. However, Tesla is also known for much more ambitious and crazy inventions. He beat the guy who supposedly invented the radio by inventing it first and did the same with X-rays. He built the famous Tesla Coils, the first remote control robot, a frequency oscillator that could supposedly destroy a building and split the earth in two. From weather control to free wir

SOFA KING CLASSIC: MISSING 411 – STRANGE DISSAPEARENCES
16/03/2021 Duración: 01h20minDue to scheduling issues we bring you a Sofa King Classic that most of you may not have heard. Man have we changed. Check it out. We explore the “Missing 411,” the name given to mysterious and creepy disappearances in national parks and national forests in the US and Canada. In this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we rap about the research, data, and findings of author and investigator David Paulides. Paulides (whom we simply call palates for most of the episode) was approached by Park Rangers from the National Park Service and told that rangers in every park have seen strange disappearances that have creepy similarities and pushed him to investigate. He did. In fact, he researched for over 7,000 hours and wrote five books, meticulously cataloging the official missing-person and police reports of all these cases, and the findings do show some strange data patterns. What is so strange about these disappearances? Well, the people who go missing, often take off their clothing and shoes, even in freezing cold

Episode 565: Billie Holiday: The First Lady of Jazz
12/03/2021 Duración: 01h38minOn this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we talk about the life, drugs, music, and drugs (so many drugs) of Billie Holiday. She is considered one of the all-time greats of American music and jazz, but she had a troubled past. Billie worked in brothels as a child and was repeatedly raped and sold through early sex trafficking by the same madam her mother worked for. Through all this, her love of music and dedication to the craft got her off the streets and into singing. At 16, she was singing in clubs in New York, and by 18 she was working for Benny Goodman. However, along the way she became addicted to drugs, big time. Meanwhile, a horrible man named Harry Anslinger was in charge of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics. He was a racist and thought blacks, jazz, and drugs were ruining America. When he couldn’t literally bring down all of jazz music (which he tried to do), he put all his efforts on bringing down Billie Holiday. She battled his agents and her own demons through her tumultuous life. Give this one a

Episode 564: Shao Lin Warrior Monks: The Brutal Buddhists
09/03/2021 Duración: 52minOn this episode of the world famous Sofa King Podcast, we talk about the Warrior Monks of Shao Lin. Yes, there is a real Shao Lin Temple, and yes it still exists. 400 monks are allowed to train there, and supposedly 100 are warrior monks, dedicated not just to studying Buddha but also perfection of Kung Fu. In this episode we talk about the history of the Shao Lin Temple. It was destroyed and rebuilt several times, and often the Warrior Monks saved emperors and defended villages. There is a lot of mythology and mysticism surrounding this place, and it all seems to have a grounding in the truth of history. We examine several documentaries about modern day Shao Lin Kung Fu taught at the temple and look at the truths and secrets of this holy order. Episode 563: Ellis Island: The Golden Doorway or an Island of Tears?
05/03/2021 Duración: 01h33minOn this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we look at the most important point of arrival to the United States for more than 60 years, Ellis Island. This small (mostly manmade) island near New York City is famous for admitting ancestors of roughly 40% of all Americans. It was where the mass influx of Irish came during the potato famine, where Jews escaped prosecution, and the Italian Mob became a New York City Import. What happened there, and why did some call it the Island of Tears? Ellis Island started as, believe it or not, an island. Eventually, the Dutch bought it catch shellfish, and eventually it became known as Gibbet Island, named after the wooden posts where dead pirates were hung to death and displayed for incoming ships to see. Nice one. Eventually, a man named Samuel Ellis bought it, and after another immigration center closed in 1890, Ellis Island became the go to destination for incoming immigrants from the East. It served as both a processing center for paperwork, a health and legal screening

Episode 562: Eliot Ness and The Untouchables
02/03/2021 Duración: 01h37minBorn in Chicago, Eliot Ness was a smart, officious child. He dressed well and always did his homework—so much so, that his nickname in high school was Elegant Mess. His brother in law was a fed, and he inspired the young Eliot to become a federal investigator as well. Shortly after college, he joined the Treasury Department. He ultimately landed a job in the Prohibition Bureau battling mobsters and bootleggers. Once the president decided to stop Al Capone in Chicago, The US District attorney hired Eliot Ness on the spot. Many federal agents were corrupt or downright evil (such as Kinky Thompson), so they needed someone with integrity. Ness read the files of every agent and assembled his super team of The Untouchables. They resisted bribes and took the war to Capone, eventually forcing him to import liquor instead of make his own. While their lives were threatened regularly, they stayed the course and brought Capone down. After that, Ness moved to Ohio and cleaned up the 10th largest city in America, Clevela

Episode 561: Qin Shi Huan: Game of Thrones, China Style!
26/02/2021 Duración: 01h40minOn this episode of the World Famous Sofa King Podcast, we travel back time and look at the first emperor of unified China, Qin Shi Huan. His legacy is one of power, unification, reformation, and madness in the quest for eternal life. He was the one who started construction of the Great Wall of China and fought a massive series of wars to unify the 7 warring states to serve him as emperor. He drank mercury, burned books, killed just about everyone, and left behind the amazing army of terra cotta soldiers. Everything about this guy is controversial, even his birth. One account is that the was the son of a kidnapped prince and a wealthy consort. Another is that he was the son of this consort and a powerful merchant named Lu Buwei who just used the prince to give his unborn son power. Either way, Lu Buwei put this prince in power as king and then after his death, ruled the kingdom until (his son) the prince was old enough to take power. And take power, he did. Qin Shi Huan ruled over a period known as Warring S

23/02/2021 Duración: 01h34minOn this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we explore some true crime and look at the life and murders of Lonnie David Franklin JR, aka, The Grim Sleeper. This serial killer was considered the longest operating killer west of the Mississippi River, and it took decades to catch him. He preyed on prostitutes in South Central Los Angeles, and he was only caught due to a piece of pizza and a crazy DNA match that didn’t even connect to him. Nobody really knows much about The Grim Sleeper’s youth, except that he was born in South Central LA in 1952. He spent some time in the army, but he was dishonorably discharged for gang raping a woman in Germany where he was stationed. Back in the states, he lived a typical blue collar life. He was married with two kids, worked in sanitation and even for the LAPD for a bit (not as a cop...). But in the meantime, a string of murders originally assigned to the Southside Slayer were mounting in the worst parts of South Central. Hookers were being found shot in the chest, but ther

Episode 559: Bobby Kennedy: The Best Kennedy?
19/02/2021 Duración: 01h46minOn this episode of the world famous Sofa King podcast, we look at the life, power, assassination, and conspiracy theories surrounding Robert Kennedy. Bobby Kennedy was of course John F Kennedy’s younger brother. He was raised in the Kennedy shark tank by their father Joe Kennedy, and he had no real choice but to be a political powerhouse. He was behind his brother’s election as president, came up with the solution to the Cuban Missile Crisis, and was a political powerhouse that most people underestimate. But he also made enemies, one who took his life. Bobby was a quiet child in a family that had no use for quiet children. His father was so powerful and ambitious that young Bobby soon became invisible to him. He also became his mother’s favorite, adopting many of her traits and interests. He served in WWII and when he got out started a career in politics. From early on, he was behind the scenes in many senate committees and worked to get his brother John elected first to lower positions and ultimately to the
