Halloween for so many people is an opportunity to have fun by Trick or Treating with children, throwing parties and dressing in outlandish costumes.  Traditional costumes include ghosts, goblins and witches.  The witches’ costumes have recently come under fire as being politically incorrect since the long noses and pointy hats degrade the Wiccan religion.  So are the witches’ costumes really wrong for Halloween?  Perhaps the answer resides in the original practices and culture of the celebration.  Or better yet, let’s search the Holy Scriptures for the answers concerning the costumes, the practices and the Day of Halloween itself. Few historians will deny that the system of institutionalized slavery was the primary factor that transformed America into an economic powerhouse and solidified its position as the most powerful nation on Earth. While slavery was clearly a blessing for the financial growth of the country, few would be so callous or so foolish as to suggest that slavery was a blessing for the millions of Blacks who were enslaved. But that is exactly what one Arkansas State Representative is proposing. In his book written in 2009 Republican Jon Hubbard states that slavery was a “Blessing in Disguise” for the Black Race. Why are black women infected with herpes at a higher rate than Americans as a whole? Is it lack of knowledge regarding safe sex practices? Are black women simply having more sex thereby increasing the likelihood of infection? Or maybe, black women are genetically predisposed to infection with herpes. Of all the Holidays celebrated in today’s world, few are as popular or as misunderstood as Halloween. In an attempt to purify Halloween we now more frequently hear the politically correct title of “Harvest Festival”.  One conservative Christian group has even gone so far as to institute “Jesus Ween”. AIDS has been a plague upon humanity to some degree for roughly 30 years now.  In those 30 years medical science has made great strides in the prevention and treatment of the disease.  Methods of prevention are easily available and are very simple.  Abstain from sex, use condoms and don’t share needles.  This being the case, it is very puzzling that this affliction continues to rise in the Black community in the United States of America.  In fact the HIV/AIDS rate among African Americans rivals and maybe surpasses the HIV/AIDS rate among some of Africa’s poorest countries.  Why is this happening in the wealthiest country in the world?  Is the disease’s high rate among Blacks due to some racist diabolical plot?  Or is there some other cause that is not apparent?
