    23/06/2019 Duración: 28min

Feliciano Lopez produced an astonishing day of tennis to win the singles and doubles titles at the Fever-Tree Championships at the age of 37, joining forces with Andy Murray after beating Gilles Simon. Afterwards, an exhausted Catherine and David hauled themselves behind the microphone to reminisce, exchange stories, and talk about the latest tennis World No.1 - Ash Barty. How did Barty get there and what are her prospects now. And are Lopez and Federer in the Wimbledon mix after their titles at the age of 37?The Tennis Podcast is produced in association with Telegraph Sport, and will be available daily during Wimbledon.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Queen’s Day 6 - Winner Stays On

Feliciano Lopez won singles, then doubles, then doubles again to earn places in both finals at the Fever-Tree Championships on Sunday. The 37-year-old Spaniard outlasted 18-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime in three sets, and played two matches with Andy Murray to defy belief.Afterwards, Catherine Whitaker, David Law and Matt Roberts convened to try to work out how on earth he did it.There’s also Joe Salisbury chat. The Tennis Podcast is produced with Telegraph Sport, and available daily throughout the Fever-Tree Championships at The Queen’s Club, and Wimbledon.   See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Queen’s Day 5 - Felix Auger-Aliassime Arrives

    21/06/2019 Duración: 33min

The name Felix Auger-Aliassime has been thrown around for a few years, and his rise up the rankings this year has been one of the most interest talking points of 2019.Even the Tennis Podcast team weren’t expecting what he produced this week at Queen’s, beating Grigor Dimitrov, Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the space of 26 hours. He’s now into the semifinals against Feliciano Lopez, a man more than twice his age. Lopez came back from a set down to beat Milos Raonic in a final set tie-break.Perhaps the winner of the title will be Daniil Medvedev, who squashed Diego Schwartzman 6-2, 6-2. In doubles, there was more Andy Murray chat after he and Lopez were called off for bad light against Dan Evans and Ken Skupski. The Tennis Podcast is produced with Telegraph Sport, and available daily throughout the Fever-Tree Championships at The Queen’s Club, and Wimbledon.   See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Queen’s Day 4 - Andy Murray Is Back

    20/06/2019 Duración: 35min

When Andy Murray struggled to haul himself onto a stool so that Catherine Whitaker could interview him in Australia, the idea that he would play stunning doubles at The Queen’s Club and celebrate like a big kid would have seemed frankly ridiculous. But that’s what has happened. Catherine spoke live to Murray for Prime Video after his straight sets win alongside Feliciano Lopez against top seeds Cabal and Farah, and David sat in on all of his interviews. Murray could not stop talking. It was a joyous occasion.Elsewhere, Stefanos Tsitsipas scraped through against Jeremy Chardy, and now meets Felix Auger-Aliassime, who played extraordinarily well to beat both Grigor Dimitrov and Nick Kyrgios in the same day. Kyrgios had further run-ins with officialdom. And repeat. The Tennis Podcast is produced with Telegraph Sport, and available daily throughout the Fever-Tree Championships at The Queen’s Club, and Wimbledon.   See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Queen’s Day 3 - Rain, Tennis, Drama

    19/06/2019 Duración: 31min

More rain, but actual tennis as well. That’s the gist of the day 3 Tennis Podcast from the Fever-Tree Championships at The Queen’s Club.Juan Martin del Potro looked in fine fettle against Denis Shapovalov, but then hurt himself and was forced to withdraw from the tournament with yet another knee injury.Stan Wawrinka looked like he had added a turbo boost to his standard diesel engine as he raced to a 3-0 lead against Dan Evans, and never looked back. Is he in the mix? What about for Wimbledon?Stefanos Tsitispas did what we suspected he might do - played like a dream, looked like a movie-star and basically won everyone over in about 10 minutes. Only problem was he was up against the British No.1, and Kyle Edmund has his work cut out at 3-6, 3-3 overnight after the rain came down again. We cover the allegations around a doubles match that Feliciano Lopez played a couple of years ago, including his statement in response, the results elsewhere in Halle, Birmingham and Mallorca, and whatever else we could think of.

    09/06/2019 Duración: 43min

It’s getting ridiculous now. After Rafael Nadal takes Roland Garros for the 12th time, Catherine, David and Matt chat on The Tennis Podcast about where the final was won and lost against Dominic Thiem, before trying to put Nadal’s achievements into context. Was the first set one of the best ever in a Grand Slam final? How did Nadal outlast Thiem both mentally and physically throughout the match? And can Thiem take heart from this defeat, knowing that he won a set at least, or was it further evidence that the gap to Nadal on clay is unbridgeable? Looking ahead, will Nadal transfer this form to grass? How many more French Open titles might he be able to win? And can he surpass Federer’s all-time Grand Slam record? There’s also a rundown of all the other significant results from this year’s tournament, and a reflection on what made it such a memorable French Open. The Tennis Podcast is produced weekly throughout the year and daily at the Grand Slam tournaments, in association with The Te

  • French Open Day 14 - Brilliant Barty Wins First Grand Slam; Thiem Takes Out Djokovic

    08/06/2019 Duración: 32min

Ash Barty has become a Grand Slam singles champion, just as David Law predicted would happen this year on The Tennis Podcast over a month ago. We are never going to hear the end of it.On the penultimate day of the 2019 French Open, David is joined by Catherine Whitaker and Matt Roberts to chat about how Barty did it, and gloat about his prediction. What makes Barty so popular? If clay is not her favourite surface, will she now go on to win more Grand Slams elsewhere, particularly on the grass at Wimbledon? And how much of an impact did the delayed start time have on Marketa Vondrousova? In the men’s event, Djokovic’s quest to hold all four Grand Slam titles for the second time was ended by Dominic Thiem. How did Thiem use his variety to disrupt Djokovic? Why did we not see the relentless brilliance from Djokovic? What did both players have to say about last night’s premature suspension of play? And how will Thiem get on against Nadal in the final? The Tennis Podcast will be produ

    07/06/2019 Duración: 52min

Day 13 at Roland Garros saw unpredictability and excitement in the women’s draw, the top men’s seeds playing well, rain and wind affecting conditions, and some baffling scheduling decisions. In short, it was in keeping with the themes of this year’s tournament. Catherine, David and Matt are together on the podcast to talk it all through. In the women’s semi-finals, did Jo Konta choke against Marketa Vondrousova? What did Konta have to say about her match being scheduled on Court Simonne-Mathieu? And how did Ash Barty eventually beat Amanda Anisimova in a rollercoaster match? The marquee match of the day was Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal, so why was the stadium so empty at the start?
