Here is our annual Halloween special, and we return to the great Castlevania series, with Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest on the NES! This is easily the most underappreciated of the NES trilogy, mostly because of the cryptic nature of the whole "Where do I go?" style this game portrays. Once you have some type of guide, this game is incredibly fun. The graphics and colors of this game far surpass the original, making this easily one of the best-looking overall games on the NES in 1988. Another late summer Capcom NES classic, but fortunately for me, this particular game isn't nearly as hard as 1943 was last year. Willow is a flawed, but very enjoyable Zelda style action RPG, that does qualify as a decent port of a pretty good fantasy movie from the late 1980's of the same name! Sorry this review is longer than maybe it should be, but I really enjoyed making this review, after having to temporarily suspend production of Who Framed Roger Rabbit on the NES, which I started way back in early May! This game gives you more of a Super Mario World style format, but of course in Game Boy form. The music on this game is very energetic and relaxing at the same time. We go back to the legendary late 80's and early 90's with one of the better action platformers on the NES, without the name "Mario" in it, Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers! One of the staples of the Disney Afternoon, being brought to the NES was a definite success, and arguably a more entertaining style than it's predecessor in Duck Tales. Here it is, the much anticipated Castlevania NES review, and the Halloween special for 2023! This game started it all for Konami, in the massive Castlevania franchise. In a lot of ways, I've always felt that this series should have remained a side scrolling platforming style, because in all honesty, why didn't it?
