I want you to learn how to pray, and when you pray, how to get an answer. Recently I found myself asking the question we all ask, WHY? Why this? Why that? And I was asking, why is it that people pray and don't get an answer? Then it was as if the Lord said to me, "It's because they give up asking". The Scripture teaches: 'Keep on asking and it will be given to you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking reverently and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, the door will be opened' (Matthew 7:7-8, AMPC). So many people know the Lord's Prayer, they can say the prayer, they can sing it - but they don't know the reality of the words. I want you to read Luke 11, because Jesus did not end with the 'Amen' of the prayer, but actually continued, "Which of you has a friend and shall go to him at midnight and say, 'Friend, lend me three loaves, because a friend of mine has come and I have no food in my house to give him.'" Jesus is talking about prayer! He says, eventually, if you keep knocking, your neighbour will give you what you ask, not because you are friends, but to stop you banging on the door! If I could give you a gift, I would give you this verse from Jeremiah 33:3, 'Call, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things you know not.' I want you to learn to call on God - and He will answer you! Not only will He answer, but the reason I love this verse, and the reason I pray over this verse, is because God says, when He answers, He will show you great and mighty things you don't know; He will open up heaven and show you His glory. God will do so much more than you ask, His power is without limit. Not only will He heal your sickness, He will mend your broken heart. When God heals you, you get a new life, it's like being born again; He will fill you with a new energy and vitality. I want you to call upon Him today. Put your hand on your sickness and say this prayer with me: I believe Jesus is alive and that God is my Father. You gave me a promise that when I call upon the Name of Jesus, and by the power of His Name, I shall be healed. In the Name of Jesus, I command every curse to be broken, I command every disease to come out of my body. In the Name of Jesus I receive my healing. Everyone can be healed; it is not the will of God that you should suffer with sickness and disease; God's plan for you is to be healthy and joyful, that is why the Bible says of Jesus, 'He was beaten so that we can have peace, and by His stripes we are healed'. We need to apply the same level of faith to our healing as we do to our salvation. In Matthew 8 it says of Jesus that 'He healed all who came to Him': if you will come to Him today through prayer, He will heal you of every symptom and disease. Our circumstances can be changed; the Word of God cannot fail! When Jesus speaks, the miracle will happen! Jesus has power and authority in your life, power to set you free, power to heal you of every sickness, power to resurrect dead circumstances. Only believe, and the miracle will happen. God's plans for your life are for good and not evil, to give you a hope and a future; He promises you a glorious future, an abundant life of health and blessing. Whoever you are, if you will call on Jesus, He will answer you. He will deliver you. He will heal your sickness. Jesus will take away your hurt and pain. Every time I need a miracle in my life I have to fast and pray; I stay up late at night, get up early in the morning; I pray, and I pray, and I pray. And God answers prayer! When I pray I expect an answer. My God is different to any other god in the world, because my God is a prayer answering God! When I was praying over my lung cancer in 2003, one passage was such an encouragement. In Jeremiah 33 God speaks to the prophet: at the time Jeremiah was locked in a prison - He wasn't sitting in luxury watching a televangelist, he was in a prison! - And God says, "Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know." Look, if you are in a 'prison', if you want a miracle in your life, begin to pray! Cry out to God. It says in Romans 6:1-3 that we are baptised into Christ's death. Jesus died to get rid of the 'flesh', and He rose again to triumph over the devil, defeat the last enemy, death, and gave us the victory! When you are baptised in water, you are dead! I'm a dead man! When I asked to be baptised in water as a 12 year old boy, I was buried with Christ! And when I came out of the water, I was a newborn baby! I'm in Christ! This is what the Word of God says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, if we are in Christ, we are a new creation! The old things are gone! Gone forever! I've been filled with the Holy Spirit and I expect to see the power of God. We have to believe that God can work miracles. But in order to receive we need to spend time alone with Him; in the Bible, throughout Jesus' ministry, He would withdraw to the desert to pray; how much more is this necessary for us. It is only in these times of prayer and worship that we receive His strength. God is our answer; He is our power; God is our strength; He is our hope and deliverer; God is everything! There is a power in the Word of God that transforms and revolutionises our lives; it is a power to heal the sick, raise the dead and bring new life to a troubled soul. That is why, when we declare the Word of God, miracles happen. It is not us, it's God fulfilling His Word. It is so easy to know what is in the Bible, but then dismiss it. We read it, study it, preach it, 'spiritualise' it, until there is a danger that we make it mean something else. But everything in the Bible can happen today! Don't limit God. I want to challenge you to a new kind of faith. We are commanded to go in and possess all the blessings which God has promised. The Bible says, 'Jesus the same yesterday, today and forever.' That's the only bit of the Bible I don't agree with. Listen carefully. In my life, the Jesus I know today is not the Jesus I knew when I was first a Christian. The Jesus I know today is a thousand times stronger and more powerful, more wonderful, than the Jesus I knew 70 years ago. The Bible says He's always the same, but to me, the Jesus I know becomes stronger every day, more powerful. Ten times more powerful this year than He was last year. A hundred more times powerful than He was a few years ago. A thousand times more powerful than when I was a young man! So who is right and who is wrong? I've discovered the truth! 'You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you' (Acts 1.8). Our power from God is through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and then through our relationship with God in prayer following that experience. The clear promise is that HIS power would be in US. Also that we would become witnesses. A witness is one who sees something and reports on it. We need to see, experience and witness God's miraculous power in action! Not merely by sitting and waiting, but by making it happen through the power of God. To me, it seems that the older I become the more powerful God is, yet it is not God who changes, but me, He reveals more of His glory as I seek after Him. My God is the greatest and most powerful God in all the world and He is about to work the greatest miracles of all time. Yes, we are about to write the sequel to the Acts of the Apostles - yes, we are about to see the fulfilment of the Book of Revelation. 'I have surely seen the affliction of My people, and have heard their cry; I know their sorrows; and I am come down to deliver' (Exodus 3:7-8). When I had lung cancer, who did I call, who could I go to for help, I went to the Lord. He was the only one who could deliver me from my sickness. I've seen the power of God to deliver; yes, He has healed me twice of cancer, freed me from a communist prison, but I have also seen Him deliver men from the power of sin. I once preached in a Siberian prison to all 1400 inmates, desperate men: 200 multiple murderers, 400 serious sex offenders and 800 even worse criminals. The commandant said he was an atheist, that God could not change these men, that I was wasting my time. But, faced with the crisis of this challenge, the Holy Spirit came on me and God transformed the prison that day. God changed my life; I realised He had done what He promised, God had filled me with a new fire and passion. After my first visit to Jerusalem in 1961 I became a missionary to Israel, coming up to eight times a year, bringing tourists. In order to get to Jerusalem I had to go behind the Iron Curtain, through communist countries, and God opened my eyes to a new vision. In 1964, only three and a half years after my first visit to Jerusalem, I discovered I had throat cancer. I went to the Word of God for my healing. The Bible is the most powerful book in the world! All the power and authority that God has is revealed in His Word! After three months of praying and believing, I went to the hospital where they confirmed that God had worked a miracle; God had cut my cancer out as with a knife. All my life I have been desperate to meet with Jesus, to see His power and glory here on earth. Why did I first go to Russia, why do I have the ministry I have today? My first visit behind the Iron Curtain was over 50 years ago. I was an evangelist, a pastor in England, yet I had seen how the church had lost the anointing, lost the power. I was determined that I would have an experience with God that was incorruptible, that would last until the appearing of Christ. When you meet with Jesus, when His fire comes into you, you become a changed person: from a powerless individual into a mighty man of God. When we give God everything, He fills us with His Spirit; it becomes a tangible presence in our lives. But to receive this anointing we have to surrender everything first, so that God can fill us with all His power and glory. I was so excited when I read in Leviticus 6.13 that when the priests lit the fire they were told it must never go out! I received the fire of God when I was 13 and it has never gone out! We must be witnesses to the power of God! In Acts 1 Jesus said to His disciples, "After the Holy Spirit has come upon you, YOU will receive POWER and YOU will be MY WITNESSES." In law, a witness is someone who has seen or experienced an event personally; you can't be a witness if you haven't experienced the event in question. It is the same with God, you can only be a witness to the power of God if you have experienced His power personally. We need to become witnesses. Cry out to God, ask Him to reveal Himself to you. My heart's one desire is to see Jesus, to experience His Glory here on earth. All through my early days, before I became a pastor, an evangelist, all the time I was growing up, when I was in school, when I was in church, Psalm 63:1-2 was the most important verse in my whole life! I said what David said, "Oh God, You are my God, I will seek for You from the early part of my life, I will search You out, Oh God, wherever You are, in Heaven, on earth, I will search for You, Oh God! I want to know who You are, I want to find You!" I want to see God's Power and Glory, not just in the sanctuary, but in the battlefield of my life; I’m desperate for His presence in the midst of my tribulation: my sickness, my financial trouble, in my prison cell.
